I’ll wash your car if you remind Gov Brian Kemp about illegal aliens in Georgia – Reposted from The Islander newspaper

September 20, 2022 By D.A. King

The below is reposted here from the St. Simons Island/Brunswick “The Islander” newspaper, Sept 19, 2022 edition

I’ll wash your car if you remind Gov Kemp about illegal aliens in Georgia

D.A. King

With the “Brian Kemp Track and Deport Plan,” then candidate for governor, Brian Kemp made a detailed 2018 promise to go after what he called “criminal illegals” in Georgia if he was elected. He went so far as to post detailed language of promised legislation on his campaign website that he said would create a public registry of the criminal aliens and end “sanctuary cities” in Georgia.

You can see an example of this pledge in a short video blurb from a May, 2018 Fox & Friends interview on the ImmigrationPolitcsGA.com website. There was no such legislation in Kemp’s first term.

* Related: 2018 candidate for GA governor Brian Kemp’s first TV campaign ad

In an October 2021 news report (“Kemp’s immigration policy could complicate bid for second term”), even the uber liberal Atlanta Journal Constitution took note of the Kemp’s betrayal with “Gov. Brian Kemp promised to enact sweeping crackdowns on illegal immigration on the 2018 campaign trail, boasting that he would “round up criminal illegals” himself as he pledged to “track and immediately deport” unauthorized immigrants with criminal records. Those unfulfilled vows now complicate Kemp’s campaign for a second term.” Indeed.

This writer is brilliantly aware of the fact that pointing out Gov Brian Kemp’s defiance on the many 2018 campaign promises he made regarding “undocumented workers” makes Republican voters uncomfortable. I have been told more than once to remain silent on the matter lest too many GOP voters remember too much from four years ago. I can’t count the times I have heard various versions of “we don’t want Stacey to win, D.A. – lay off Kemp until after the election!”

No.

For the record, I watched Stacey Abrams in the state legislature up close for many years and certainly don’t want her to be governor either. But the fact is that the “criminal illegals” Brian Kemp ran on in 2018 are still killing, raping, and molesting innocents in Georgia while he remains silent and boasts of Georgia being “number one for business.”

Other pro-enforcement Americans have taken note of Kemp’s “big truck trick.”

Tom Homan, former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the Trump administration, on Fox News in February, 2020: ”I’m in Georgia today, I’m giving a speech in Atlanta. Governor Kemp, who ran on tough immigration enforcement, now he’s in office, he’s missing in action. Sanctuary jurisdictions are growing in Georgia. So, you know, again, it’s the politicians who aren’t living up to their word.” Homan was in Georgia to be the keynote speaker at a forum on immigration this writer organized.

Closer to home for The Islander readers, we point out a letter to the editor published in the Brunswick News in March which read in part “by order of the powerful special interests that profit from black-market labor, the entire topic of the organized crime of illegal immigration has been carefully set aside here in the Peach State where we host more illegals than Arizona” wrote Mr. Robert Trent.

A resident of St. Mary’s, Trent is a proud former immigration enforcement officer and former Border Patrol agent. Now retired, his final assignment was serving as the as Assistant Director, Enforcement Training, at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynn County.

“I am one of the many pro-enforcement voters who can remember all the way back to 2018 when then candidate for Governor Brian Kemp made a long list of promises concerning “criminal illegals,” his “big truck” and detailed legislation aimed at sanctuary cities and counties in Georgia. I am also old enough to see his arrogant refusal to so much as mention those promises since then” wrote Mr. Trent.

Solution

The solution to the Kemp betrayal on illegal immigration in Georgia does not involve ignoring it. In politics, silence is consent. Georgia Republicans should join Tom Homan and Bob Trent in making their voices heard by 2022 candidate for governor Brian Kemp about illegal immigration in Georgia.

I’ll wash your car if you call his Capitol office in Atlanta and speak up. The phone number is 404-656-1776.

The race-baiting AJC forgot to explain who ran Forsyth County in 1912

September 16, 2022 By D.A. King

There they go again. Today’s AJC “Jolt” run by editor Patricia Murphy leaps of the screen with a headline telling readers about “outrage after GOP warns Stacey Abrams is crossing ‘border’ for visit.” As you can see below the Patricia Murphy scare takes us back to 1912 – when the Democrats ran Georgia and Forsyth County. She failed to mention that in today’s race baiting “racial cleansing” plug for the 2018 runner-up for Georgia governor. So we did.

Top storyline on today’s “The Jolt” –

“Democrats are venturing deep into Republican-friendly territory they might have once avoided. And in Forsyth County, local Republicans aren’t reacting kindly to that prospect.

After the Forsyth County Democratic Committee announced plans to welcome Stacey Abrams to a Sunday night barbecue dinner, the local GOP announced plans for protests with loaded language.

“This is a call to save and protect our neighborhoods, our communities and our county! The moment is at hand,” said a Forsyth County GOP flyer. “The designers of destructive radicalism and socialism are crossing over our county border and into Cumming this Sunday.”

Melissa Clink, who chairs the local Democratic party, blasted the “dangerous and embarrassing rhetoric” from their GOP counterparts and singled out the line noting Abrams is “crossing our border.”

“Forsyth County’s history of racial cleansing and being a documented sundown town make this line especially incendiary, disgusting and shameful.”

She’s referring to the racial cleansing in 1912 that forced the Black population of roughly 1,100 to flee Forsyth County.

Clink added: “You will not silence us. If anything, your actions will make us louder.”

We reached out to the Forsyth GOP but didn’t hear back.”

Stacey Abrams joins the GA Chamber of Commerce and multiple GOP state legislators in pushing for instate tuition for illegal aliens

September 15, 2022 By D.A. King

Stacey Abrams

We will save this post until January, 2023 when the GA legislature begins session

Breitbart News and several other outlets ran a story “Stacey Abrams: Illegal Migrants Should Get Cheap College Slots” last week on the fact that Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams has advanced the “we want instate tuition for illegal aliens in public colleges” campaign ploy for the “progressive” voters.

From Breitbart:

“My first belief is that if you finish high school, you should be able to attend any college to which you are qualified to attend, no matter what your documentation says .. [because] we are growing the next generation of leaders,” Abrams told an audience Wednesday at Valdosta State University.”

Most pro-enforcement Americans recognize that offering any sort of reward or encouragement to any form of illegal immigration serves to encourage more illegal immigration. Pro-enforcement Americans should fight everything that encourages illegal immigration.

A video  of the 2018 runner-up in the race for Georgia governor spouting her support for instate tuition for illegals featured in the Breitbart piece tagged as being a product of the “GOP War Room.” I can’t be sure who exactly runs the GOP War Room but it looks like somebody from the Republican side who “stalks” the Abrams campaign made it in an effort to illustrate her willingness to reward illegal aliens and put them in front of Americans in America.

Related: The average tuition & fees for Colleges in Georgia is $4,739 for in-state and $17,008 for out-of-state #HB120 #HB 932

Dalton Rep Kasey Carpenter, center.

In the heat of the race for governor, Abrams position  is rightly depicted as being too far out on the left for sensible Georgia voters. We agree. But we note (along with Breitbart writer Neil Munro in the above report) that the fact it was Republicans who advanced legislation under Georgia’s Capitol Gold Dome in the last several years to change state law in order to reward illegal aliens with instate tuition while American and legal immigrant students from other states would still be forced to pay the much higher tuition rates. Last year’s edition of this tuition sell out was HB 120 from Dalton Rep Kasey Carpenter. And Republicans – including Rome Rep Katie Dempsey – who voted to advance HB 120 out of the House Higher Education Committee. Only the spread of too much information from the Dustin Inman Society stopped the bill from going to the floor. It was a Republican who introduced HB 932 that would have changed state law so that refugees, Special Visa Immigrants and some other foreigners could bypass the existing one year wait on accessing instate tuition in our public colleges after they had “migrated” to Georgia. Americans who move to Georgia would still be required to wait for a year to get the much cheaper rates.

We write this up merely to illustrate that for Republicans in September of 2022 the concept that a radical, far-left Democrat advocating that instate tuition be given to illegal aliens is viewed as a very bad idea to be rejected by voters.

We’ll save this for January, 2023 when the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and the far left again push their demand that the Republican-controlled legislature give instate tuition to illegal aliens.

“Conservative” State Freedom Caucus Network pushing for taxpayer-funded K-12 private school tuition for illegal aliens – including in GA *”School Choice!” *Updated

August 17, 2022 By D.A. King

_____

*Update: August 24, 2022, 5:21 PM: The below column has driven a pro-enforcement Cherokee County resident to send a letter to the editor of his local newspaper. You can read Everett Robinson’s letter as it was published yesterday here.

_____

A well-funded group in Washington D.C. that describes itself as “conservative” is boasting that it has put a law in place in Arizona that gives illegal aliens taxpayer-funded K-12 private school tuition. The group is an off-shoot of the congressional “House Freedom Caucus” and is known as the “Freedom Caucus Network.” They have chapters in several states, including Arizona, South Carolina and Georgia. They claim to fight for “conservative values.”

The State Freedom Caucus Network sent out an email alert yesterday boasting that they had successfully fought for a bill in Arizona that sends tax dollars to all K-12 students for private school and that the Arizona governor has signed the legislation into law – it’s HB 2853.

The Freedom Caucus Network says they will now work to pass the same language into law in other states. Including Georgia.

Georgians with memories that go back to the 2022 session of the Republican-ruled state legislature may recall that three separate “school choice” bills (example) died before Sine Die. What the media and the Republicans successfully hid was the fact that the bills required Georgia taxpayers to fund the private school education of illegal alien students – with illegal alien parents included in the system set up to allow parents/guardians to distribute state funds sent to an account set up for the student.

After exposure and pressure, the House and the Senate bills saw amendments/language that purported to exclude illegals. They didn’t. It was hokum.

Here in Georgia, public comment was not allowed in the committee process that passed out the senate “school choice” bill that did not exclude illegals.

It is incredibly easy to put language into the legislation that really does exclude illegal aliens and their families from receiving taxpayer-funded private school tuition in school choice legislation. We have it here.

  • Related: Neither federal law or the 1982 Plyler v Doe Supreme Court decision require states to pay for private school education for illegal aliens.

The State Freedom Caucus in Georgia was founded by outgoing state Rep Phillip Singleton.

You can read about the Freedom Caucus Network on their website, but only after you sign up for their alerts. Here is part of the “Leadership” page:

“In December of 2021 Philip founded the Georgia Freedom Caucus and helped launch the State Freedom Caucus Network. Philip is now the acting Georgia State Director for the State Freedom Caucus Network and the Vice Chair of the Georgia Freedom Caucus.”

*Update:”Georgia’s contingent includes Rep. Philip Singleton of Sharpsburg, Rep. Charlice Byrd of Cherokee County, Rep. Emory Dunahoo of Gillsville, Rep. Sheri Gilligan of Cumming, Rep. Timothy Barr of Lawrenceville and Sen. Burt Jones of Jackson. Sen. Brandon Beach of Alpharetta also stood with the group…” (Georgia Recorder).

*Update again, August 29, 6:06 PM: State Senator Greg Dolezal is also a member of the Georgia Freedom Caucus. He was omitted from the list pasted above. Dolezal serves as the Chair or co-Chair, depending on what news outlet we check.

There is a fight coming between Republicans who want “school choice” at any cost and pro-enforcement conservatives who refuse to reward and encourage more illegal immigration into Georgia by expanding benefits for the illegal aliens who are right now crossing the border with their children.

We have picked a side. We hope you will too.

Below is part of yesterday’s Freedom Caucus Network email. On top is a photo of just some of the illegal aliens who came last week looking for a better life.

Letter to the editor sent to the liberal AJC this week: Keeping illegal immigration out of the 2022 election equation

July 2, 2022 By D.A. King

Image: Twitter/AJC.

Sent to the liberal AJC June 30, 2022. It will never see print as I have been blacklisted cancelled.

Dear editor,

Stacey Abrams, runner-up in the 2018 Georgia contest for governor and current Democrat candidate, is Founder of the New Georgia Project, a far-left 501c 3 effort open about its advocacy for race-and ethnicity-based identity politics. In 2019 NGP distributed pre-addressed, voter information-gathering post cards featuring the demand to “keep ICE out of our communities” at an anti-enforcement forum in Georgia’s Gwinnett County. The goal (eventually successful) was to end the life-saving 287(g) partnership between the Gwinnett Sheriff’s office and ICE.

Gov Kemp is campaigning against Abrams with charges that she supports “defunding the police.” Media coverage — including in the AJC — features her denials of holding that position.

We note that nobody, including Kemp, has mentioned Abrams documented anti-enforcement stance on Georgia’s illegal immigration crisis or her demand that dangerous criminal illegals be released from Georgia jails without notifying the feds.

We think the disgraceful silence from all concerned is intended to keep illegal immigration out of the election equation in a state with more illegals than Arizona.

Bryan Tolar, BigAg lobbyist, on black market labor, Cadillacs and E-Verify AUDIO/VIDEO & transcript

“H2A is a very good program if you can afford it. This- the federal government says that the minimum wage for a H2A worker is $9.11 and you provide transportation and you provide housing and you cover all the visa costs. It ends up costing you about $13.50 per employee per hour for those operations. If we could all drive Cadillacs it’d be great, but everyone can’t drive a Cadillac. Some people can, others can’t. So we don’t need a Cadillac system and, and that’s what the, the H2A system is a Cadillac system.” Bryan Tolar to the Georgia House Judiciary Committee (non-civil), Feb. 2011

Bryan Tolar was president of Georgia Agribusiness Council in 2011 when HB 87 was going through the committee process and eventually passed and was signed into law in Georgia. Georgia has two E-Verify laws. One for private employers and one for public contractors and taxpayer-funded entities like cities, counties and other offices, including state agencies. Neither law is enforced. We challenge anyone to produce evidence of any sanction for violation.

BigAg lobbyist Bryan Tolar (00:01)
This is a very delicate issue for agriculture because being the largest industry and representing, uh, economic impact in all 159 counties, we have a lot at stake in this. We are in the midst of trying to grow our industry in several ways. One of which, and we’ve heard the, the governor talk about it and many of you have probably weighed in on it, the expansion of the port in Savannah. We want those large container ships to come to Georgia to carry agricultural products out, not bring agricultural products in. And the system that we have in place now with the, with the technology that’s in place, with the natural resources that are abundant to our great state, we are poised to grow this industry because commodity prices have finally reached a point where people are sta- talking about what do I have to plant to make a profit, but what can I plant so I can make the most profit.

BigAg lobbyist Bryan Tolar (00:51)
And when we look at that, we need to have a labor force to be able to harvest that product. And we want, obviously, want to utilize and do utilize a legal workforce. The federal government puts in place a pa- the parameters for hiring a legal workforce. If we have employers now, whether they’re agricultural or otherwise, that are not completing the I-9, then they’re already in violation of federal law. We can’t help them, this bill can’t help them, I’m not going to try to help them. But when we look at the e-verify portion, that really is the part of the bill that gives us the, the most challenge. And I, I, I- you’ve heard from others and there’s, there’s certainly different parts to give people challenges of their own. But for ours, it’s, it’s the e-verify requirement and I, and I apologize, I have not seen the latest draft to know where we are on the e-verify part, so, um, I’ll, I’ll wait to get details on that later.

BigAg lobbyist Bryan Tolar (01:35)
But if we require the e-verify, then we are putting another layer of government on an already challenged workforce that’s out there for agricultural production. And I’m talking getting your hands dirty workforce. Um, um, very difficult to find those workers no matter where you are. And over two-thirds of our counties, agriculture’s either the number one or the number two industry in those counties. So we’re not talking about small, small beans here. We’re talking about real economic impact. So as we move forward, we need to see- and it is a federal issue. I know you’ve heard that time and time again, it is a federal issue. And Representative Franklin, I’ll, I’ll say that- and I heard your comment earlier about the constitution that we don’t have any Georgia citizens, they are also US citizens. And so we have to operate- ’cause the US is the one that provides us- federal government provides us the visas that we need to get those workers in a guest worker program to pr- to get those citizenship papers so that we can have those legal citizens here.

BigAg lobbyist Bryan Tolar (02:26)
And that’s what, that’s what we’re trying to comply with. We’re trying to comply with a federal system that also provides a federal outlet through visa programs through H2A, which many of you may be familiar with, and H2B and I’ll touch on them very quickly. H2A is a very good program if you can afford it. So we don’t need a Cadillac system and, and that’s what the, the H2A system is a Cadillac system. Now let’s talk about H2B. That’s really where we get to our landscape workers, our urban agriculture, the environment we’re in right now.

BigAg lobbyist Bryan Tolar: (03:15)
That is- that program is capped by the federal government was capped in 1990 with 66,000 visas nationwide. In 2004, we reached the cap of that. We can’t expand it. The state of Georgia can’t expand that cap. All we can do is apply for it and hope like heck that we get the workers, ’cause if we don’t, you’re out of business. And if we’re out of business, if we take a $68.8 billion industry and we take a just a 10% hit, we’re talking almost a $7 billion hit to Georgia’s economy. And that’s real. And when those- whe- and when those farming operations and when those landscapers, when they go away, they don’t come back, especially in rural Georgia. It’s that much more difficult if you’re trying to harvest a crop or if you’re trying to milk a cow or you’re trying to care for chickens, it’s a very diverse industry, it’s a very complex industry. This problem is a, is a very complex problem and it requires a federal solution.

BigAg lobbyist Bryan Tolar: (04:08)
But we understand immigration reform needs to happen and we understand there are things the state of Georgia can do and we recognize that this legislation carries a lot of different components in it that will serve the state of Georgia and will serve the state of Georgia well. But, but we take the biggest challenge in this legislation is with the e-verify part and mandating that on private employers. And at that point, Ms. Chairman, I’ll take any questions.

Committee Chairman: (04:29)
Let me, uh, let me ask you a, a question that warrants a probably a 10 to 15 minute answer about-

Committee Chairman: (04:36)
[crosstalk 00:04:36] Okay, well I won’t do that.

Committee Chairman: (04:37)
But I’m going to ask you to do it in 30 seconds.

Committee Chairman: (04:37)
Okay.

Committee Chairman: (04:38)
Very reasonably, I think.

Big Ag lobbyist Bryan Tolar: (04:39)
Yes, sir.

Committee Chairman: (04:42)
W- where’s the line? Where’s the line between those folks in the agricultural community who this perhaps not as big a deal and where- with the folks that where it is? In other words, where is that line of the, you know, where compliance with, uh, with H2A and e-verify and everything that you talked about, what’s the comfort level? And I understand that’s something of a subjective determination and, you know, in our minds we take an oath to support and defend and protect the law.

Big Ag lobbyist Bryan Tolar: (05:12)
Yes, sir.

Committee Chairman: (05:13)
Um, and we all take it seriously. I’m a little concerned about the fact that what I’m hearing is a message from you that says, “Well, we should enforce the law and protect the law and adhere to it, but only if we can afford it.” And that’s what I think I’m hearing. Tell me if I’m hearing something differently. And then tell me about who is it in your mind, just from your industry, intra-industry, where- who, who can afford it and who can’t. And the size of that operation.

Big Ag lobbyist Bryan Tolar: (05:54)
Okay.

Committee Chairman: (05:54)
Talk about the law first and how it is- I mean, that’s the message that I just heard and I want to make sure that I didn’t hear it wrong.

Big Ag lobbyist Bryan Tolar: (05:59)
That’s actually a, a 30 minute answer so I’ll, I’ll do my best. Um-

Big Ag lobbyist Bryan Tolar: (06:02)
I warned you (laughs).

Big Ag lobbyist Bryan Tolar: (06:04)
With regard to, to who can and who can’t take advantage of the H2A program because it is an expensive program, uh, the answer is it depends. It depends on what your commodity is, it depends on your locale for where your market is. Um, and I know that’s, that’s a lawyer type answer. I think I’ll say it depends a lot too. Um, but it- there is no, there is no simple answer and it’s because the industry is not simple. The solution is not simple. And it’s not a matter of drawing a line and saying, “Well, if we get above this point or we’re below this point, then, then we’re in

Pro-enforcement voters in Georgia want to hear about illegal immigration – in Georgia

April 28, 2022 By D.A. King

GA Gov Brian Kemp (L), former U.S. Senator David Perdue (R) at April 24 gubenatorial candidate debate. Photo: WSB-TV.

Gwinnett County Sheriff’s public defiance of state law on checking immigration status of foreign-born prisoners should be “an issue”

  • Watch tonight’s debate here.

With time running out before the Republican Primary, ending the pretense on Governor Kemp and the ludicrous premise that he has fulfilled all his 2018 campaign promises is long past due. He hasn’t. We point to Kemp’s detailed but narrow 2018 campaign promises on illegal immigration in Georgia.

Likewise, since primary challenger and former U.S. Senator Perdue has finally brought up Kemp’s “Big Truck Trick” as related to removing illegal aliens in last Sunday’s debate, it is past time for Perdue to let voters know if he would do anything as governor regarding the organized crime that is illegal immigration – in Georgia. If so, what, exactly?

This writer is one of many pro-enforcement Independents whose vote in 2022 does not depend on what yarn we hear from either side about what happened in the 2020 election debacle. We are laser-focused on illegal immigration in Georgia and the needless dangers and miseries it imposes on Georgians.

While vying for the 2018 GOP candidacy, Kemp did not promise to send Georgia’s National Guard to the border. As Mark Krikorian at the Center for Immigration Studies noted on NRO at the time, neither did he mention addressing the root cause of illegal immigration (spoiler: it’s  illegal employment).

But candidate Kemp did repeatedly pledge to go after “criminal illegals.” He promised to create a public registry of criminal illegal aliens. He put out a detailed outline of legislation he promised to send to the General Assembly entitled “Brian Kemp’s Track and Deport Plan.”

“As governor, conservative businessman Brian Kemp will create a comprehensive database to track criminal aliens in Georgia. He will also update Georgia law to streamline deportations from our jails and prisons” went the detailed assurance Kemp made on his 2018 campaign website.

None of it ever happened.

Related: Illegal immigration issue absent in eight-page, January 2022 Kemp campaign mailer

As this writer lamented last June (‘Kemp risks defeat by ignoring promises on illegal immigration action’), Kemp has alienated a significant number of voters by ignoring illegal immigration in Georgia. More so when he emphatically boasts that he has kept all his promises but responds to questions about his lack of action on criminal aliens in Georgia with “but the border…” as if all conservative voters are too dim to recognize the obfuscation.

Perhaps the most glaring example of executive abuse is Kemp’s refusal to direct his Attorney General to investigate and prosecute Georgia jailers who are in proud and public violation of a hard-fought public safety law regarding…criminal illegals.

The 2006 Georgia Security and Immigration Compliance Act (SB 529) created a state mandate that jailers check immigration status of foreigners in their jails and report illegal aliens to the feds. We invite all concerned to read the very short OCGA 42-4-14.

Then a state legislator, Kemp was Chairman of the Senate Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee that passed out the measure creating this regulation. “Many Georgians are “fed up” with illegal immigration,” he told the liberal AJC at the time. He voted in favor of final passage.

Compare the above-mentioned state law with the defiant public pledge made by Gwinnett County Sheriff Keybo Taylor– a jailer – at his swearing-in event on January 1, 2021: “What we will not be doing is notifying ICE of anybody’s immigration status in the jail or in any of our facilities.”

Newly elected sheriff Keybo Taylor speaks at a press conference at the Gwinnett County Jail on January 1, 2021. STEVE SCHAEFER FOR THE ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION. (AJC)

The Cobb Sheriff has taken a similar stance that was noted here last year – ‘Ga. Law: Jailers must report incarcerated illegal aliens to feds.’

Media silence

Over the course of 2021 this writer sent a “news tip” to virtually every news outlet in Atlanta on this matter. To our knowledge, the only news story on the topic came from the liberal AJC in the form of a celebratory item noting the one-year anniversary of the end of 287(g) in Cobb and Gwinnett counties.

“With 287(g) no longer in force, local jail officials have stopped systemically checking the immigration status of individuals arrested for a variety of crimes – including minor traffic violations – and sharing that information with immigration officials to initiate deportation proceedings” is how the editors at the “watchdog” AJC described the obvious defiance by Gwinnett Sheriff Keybo Taylor and others who ignore this law. The AJC headline was ‘There’s less fear’: Metro Atlanta immigrants feel safer with new sheriffs.’

Kemp’s first TV campaign ad in 2018 was all about ending “sanctuary” polices.

Perdue late to the obvious issue

Candidate Perdue has only very recently resorted to pointing to candidate Kemp’s failure to honor 2018 illegal immigration promises – and has not scratched the surface of this key issue. He’s late but it’s not too late. We say again: Many pro-enforcement voters are straining to hear some educated, detailed, and workable solutions to illegal immigration in Georgia from Perdue.

There is plenty of evidence that offended voters leave some choices blank on the ballot – or stay home.

Perdue can always resort to promising to enforce the many laws already on the books in Georgia aimed at making us less attractive to illegal immigration.

Let’s start with the Gwinnett County sheriff.

Republican GA radio host Martha Zoller says Gov Kemp has done everything he promised he would do – except on immigration…”because the situation has changed”

April 5, 2022 By D.A. King

Update 9:10 AM: I adjusted the headline due to a text from Martha Zoller. Replaced “GOP” with “Republican.”

Ending sanctuary cities, “track and deport” and a criminal alien registry not necessary now?

Transcription and audio, Martha Zoller Show, April 4, 2020 (partial) #BrianKemp

I sometimes am able to listen to my friend Martha Zoller on her radio show (9-11 AM weekdays, WDUN -AM) and have been a guest on her show. Martha was a speaker at one of our White House rallies against amnesty when ‘W’ was president.

Today (Monday, April 4) in an interview with the Speaker of the Georgia House, Martha told her audience and Speaker David Ralston that Gov Kemp has done everything he promised he would do in the 2018 campaign. That is not true.

I tweeted as much with a tag to Martha and she replied on the air. My tweet and what Martha said in response is below. It sounds to me that the essence of Martha’s defense of Kemp is that because so many illegal aliens are coming over the border now as compared to 2018 when Kemp ran for governor the first time, that he doesn’t need to honor his 2018 promises on criminal aliens and the legislation he promised to see passed on those “criminal illegals.” Many obedient Republican voters will accept this as reality.

Georgia is home to more “undocumented workers” than Arizona.

Martha Zoller will be the first one to tell you that she has been a paid staffer for both Gov. Kemp and former Senator David Perdue, who is now one of Kemp’s primary opponents for 2022. For the record, as we have said before, Perdue also ignores illegal immigration in Georgia and does not mention Kemp’s defiant betrayal on his 2018 campaign promises. We call it the “#BigTruckTrick.” Led by the liberal AJC editors, most of the Georgia media ignores it. Likewise most Republican groups, but not in Cobb County.

Martha was also appointed to the state school board by Gov.Kemp.

Martha Zoller (host): (00:04)
“Now you- when you go out at the end of the day today, whenever that is, um, you- there’s a big task then, uh, after that. There are people running in primaries, there are people that are gonna have, you know, a roughly a month until early voting starts, and then, uh, we’ve got about six or seven weeks until the- ’til the primary. What is the work that needs to be done in order to unite, in our case, you and I are both Republicans, the Republican party. But the Republican party is not the only party with- with some division issues, they’ve got ’em on the Democratic side too. Uh, so what are your thoughts about that going forward?

Speaker Ralston: (00:44)
Well, I- I tell Republicans that, uh, if we’re not united, um, then we might as well be prepared to turn over, uh, state government to the other party. Uh, that would include the Governor’s office as well as one or both of the, uh- uh, legislative chambers. Um- uh, you know, Republicans are, you know, and we are Republicans, you and I, have been for many, many years. Uh, I have been for over 65 years, uh, and, um- uh, but we just have a real, real knack of eating our own and turning on one another, and having these, uh, sort of circular firing squads and… Um, I- I don’t know much about the other party’s divisions, um- um, but- but my sense is, is that they’re not, uh, as deep or as, um, seemingly insurmountable as those we have.

Speaker Ralston: (01:50)
And then the last thing we needed this year was a contested race in a primary against the sitting, uh- uh, Governor, uh, and, um, but, you know, it’s a free country and, uh, we are where we are, so we’ll, uh, tee it up. Uh, we don’t have long to go after today before or, as you say, early voting starts of the primary. It’s not gonna be a, um, a marathon, it’s going to be a sprint, and it’s going to be a very fast sprint.

Martha Zoller (host): (02:24)
—>No, I’m with you on that, completely. We’re gonna- I’m in the process now of laying out these interviews, and I know… And it’s a good thing in many of these races to have opposition, but I’m- I’m with you, um, that we have a Governor that’s done a very good job, that’s done everything he promised he would do and, uh, that’s- the, you know, the primary in that particular race is not helping. But, you know, you and I, I know, will be working hard for our values between now and- and that primary. And the primary is gonna be a ver- May 24th is gonna be a very big day for what people like to call the Trump Republicans versus the establishment Republicans, because Tex- Texas will be having their run-offs, and we will be having our primaries, and it’s gonna tell us a lot about where we are, I think.

Speaker Ralston: (03:12)
Well, you’re exactly right. Um- um, you know, the, um, former President Trump has made the Georgia primary and the… He- he’s made it, this hasn’t been the media, but he has made it, um, the first big test of his, uh, continuing, um, influence over, uh, the Republican party. And if he loses there and he doesn’t do well in Texas, and then it looks like, uh, he’s not going to do well in, um, Alabama. Uh, he’s pulled off of his un- endorsed opponent, or the endorsed, uh, candidate there, a fair chance, uh, or better that he doesn’t do well in North Carolina, then I think people, uh, will start saying, um, you know, maybe, uh- um, maybe the dew’s worn off the rose now.

Martha Zoller (host): (04:06)
Well Speaker Ralston, I know you’ve got a very long day ahead of you, and we appreciate you giving us a few minutes of your time today.

Speaker Ralston: (04:13)
Thank you very much, Martha. It’s always good to be with you and, uh, I hope you get some rest after the session and, um, and- and- and- and I’d- I’d love to come back on, but not until after I get some rest.

Martha Zoller (host): (04:25)
That’s right, you got it.

Speaker Ralston: (04:26)
(laughs)

Martha Zoller (host): (04:26)
I will have you on again soon. Thank you very much, sir.

Martha Zoller (host): (04:29)
We’re gonna take a break right now, and when we come back we’re gonna talk with you, find out what you think. What are you looking for in this, what we call, sine die. We’ll be back.

End of interview with Speaker Ralston, show goes to commercial break.

Return from 9:30 AM break:

Announcer 1: (00:00)
5:50 and FM 102.9 WDUN. (singing)

Martha Zoller (host): (00:09)
That increase in groceries every single week, uh, almost $300 a month. That is absolutely crushing. That is essentially a tax on every American. In addition, energy costs.

Martha Zoller (host): (00:20)
It is the Martha Zoller show. And, uh, you know, what is it that you guys are looking for as you look at this last day of session, are there still bills that you’re looking for? (770) 535-2911, because what’s really interesting about any of this is that, uh, you know, what’s really interesting about any of this is that they could actually gavel out right now. They pass the budget, that’s all they have to do. Um, and you know, I, I think it’s one of those things that people need to be aware of. Um, I think it’s important. So I got this tweet in from D.A. King and I don’t don’t really us- I usually don’t, um, uh, you know, read tweets on the air, but I think because he called me out directly, I will, he says, “Martha Zoller just told listeners and speaker Ralston that governor Kemp has done a very good job of keeping all of his 2018 campaign promises.”

Martha Zoller (host): (01:18)
Um, and, and he put in here, um, uh, some comments from governor Kemp related to immigration policy as governor, conservative businessman, Brian Kemp create a comprehensive database to track criminal aliens in Georgia. He will also update the Georgia law to streamline deportation from our jails and prisons. Uh, Donald Trump was right, we must in sanctuary cities and he goes on and talks about some other things.

Martha Zoller (host): (01:43)
Where I would disagree with D.A. about his, his, you know, belief. And he’s entitled to that belief, uh, that, uh, governor Kemp has not kept promises on immigration is that the immigration issue has changed as this session, as this governor’s term has gone on. So what is necessary is different than what he promised in 2018. He has been working with the Tex- with Texas, with putting National Guard on the border to try to help stem the tide of people coming across the border because in my view, the biggest problem is not the things that were mentioned here in this promise that was made in 2018.

Martha Zoller (host): (02:24)
And this is just my opinion. This is not governor Kemp’s opinion. Although I’ve asked governor Kemp this question when he’s been on the program and he will be on again tomorrow, and I will be talking to him about this, but there are these issues that, um, have changed. And you have seen that the governor has responded to immigration issues as they relate to sex trafficking and human trafficking and people that are coming across the border. No, it is not exactly what he promised in 2018. But if, if the situation changes and the people coming across the border have changed, then you’ve got to adapt to that.

Martha Zoller (host): (03:01)
Now, D.A.’s gonna disagree with me, and that’s perfectly fine. Okay. But I think sometimes you have to amend what you promised and it doesn’t mean that you didn’t keep your promise. It meant that you saw that you needed something different than what he had originally promised. And he did something different, but D.A. can disagree with me because, hey, we’ve been friends for 25 years talking about this issue and we don’t agree on every single thing. You can join us on the phones at (770) 535-2911. Let’s talk to Chad…”

We think Martha does good work.

Martha Zoller (host): (00:00)

‘…[inaudible 00:00:00], um, uh, you know, I, I think we’re pa- We’re getting past that, and I don’t think that Donald Trump- Donald Trump was asked not to come to Virginia in the governor’s race, and he, he had complied with that wish, didn’t come. Virginia had a positive message, and they ended up electing a Republican governor. You know, I have said- I said in the AJC yesterday, if he is negative and fore and backward looking, then he doesn’t help these candidates that he says he wants to help.

Butch Miller: (00:28)
A-, absolute that’s the case. And, you know, before they were, uh, Trump policies that, that they’re all talking about, they were Butch Miller policies. And matter of fact, we passed, uh, uh, I particularly passed, uh, legislation in the Georgia chamber that, that President Trump picked up and passed on a national basis to our federal employees when we talked about, um, family, uh, access, family leave, uh, low taxes, uh, those kind of things. Those are things that I have been worked on for years now and not, not gonna stop.

Butch Miller: (01:00)
And, uh, you know, we, we talked, he talked about immigration, making sure we had immigration control. I, I was part of passing House Bill 87, which was the strongest immigration bill in the history of the, of the United States. No one has more … No one has a stronger immigration bill than Ho-, House Bill 87. Uh, so I’ve been working on those issues for years on the state level. On the federal level, they picked up those very same issues. And I think-

Martha Zoller (host): (01:27)
Absolutely.

Butch Miller: (01:28)
… that’s [inaudible 00:01:28] you know, what, what is it? Uh, intimidation is the gra- Uh, excuse me. Imitation is the greatest compliment. And, uh,-

Martha Zoller (host): (01:33)
That’s right, greatest-

Butch Miller: (01:33)
… so that’s what we’ve done.

Martha Zoller (host): (01:35)
… form of flattery. Butch Miller,-

Butch Miller: (01:37)
[crosstalk 00:01:37]

Martha Zoller (host): (01:37)
… if people wanna help you in your campaign, how can they do that?

Butch Miller: (01:40)

SB 601 “school choice!” passes senate committee this morning with zero public comment allowed (Sen. Chuck Payne, Chairman) – still no workable exclusion for illegal aliens

March 8, 2022 By D.A. King

Ecstatic supporters of SB 601 pose with Sen Miller after his “school choice!” bill passes out of committee March 8, 2022.

Update: noon, March 16, 2022 – SB 601 failed to see final passage on the senate floor yesterday by a vote of 20-29. It’s dead. Also of note: Sen Jason Anavitarte voted “YES do pass” in committee but then voted “NO” on the floor after we sent this column to the entire GOP Senate caucus. More here.

___________

Update:  A phone conversation with the Senate President Pro Tem’s Chief of Staff, Steve Tippins

12:05 PM MARCH 9, 2022. I just got the promised call from Steve Tippins, Sen Butch Miller’s Chief of Staff who said he is pretty comfy with the unworkable and poorly researched language (his, apparently) they concocted on almost excluding illegal alien students from SB 601. He did not want to talk about the illegal alien parents who would be involved in handling state money and could easily have oversight on the spending rules. Tippens told me he was getting calls from members who don’t want to deal with the illegal immigration issue at all. For clarity, I asked him “you mean you are hearing from senate members who do not want to answer questions about excluding illegal aliens from Sen Miller’s “school choice” bill?” – “yes,” was his answer. It was very enlightening. But not surprising.

Tippins allowed that he would check with “lawyers here” to ask if they agreed with my recommended fix – which he judged far too involved even though he would not let me finish my short explanation of what needed to be done. I did not ask if he would be checking with the same lawyers who helped him create the unworkable “exclusion” wording in the bill now. I was assured that SB 601 is meant to become law and not a campaign ploy.

He told me he wanted any change on the illegal immigration topic in “school choice!” to be “as surgical as possible” – meaning he didn’t want to draw attention to that matter in SB 6o1. There is more.

While I have only been involved in drafting numerous pieces of legislation (many of those bills are now law) and immigration politics under the Gold Dome since 2005, this was the most incredibly arrogant conversation I have ever had with any staffer – or legislator. It was very educational. SMH

Update: My favorite exchange is when Sen Miller tells Sen. Jackson that the legislature may not a budget any money to the “school choice!” project that so many people think is going to allow all K-12 students in GA to access state funds for private schools.

“Senator Jackson: (04:47)
What’s the estimated cost? this how much do you think this will…

Sen. Butch Miller, “Mr. Pro Tem”: (04:50)
Well, it’s just within appropriation. So it might be, I mean, they might not appropriate anything.”

____

Our view is that providing taxpayer funded benefits not already mandated by federal law to illegal aliens does not represent conservative values.

SB 601 passed out of its senate committee about 10:00 AM this morning. I will post a transcript of the hearing and access to video soon.

Update: Video here then March 8, 2022 then 27:26 on the counter.

Transcript here.

Update: Transcript cost to me: $57.50. Total time for all this: 15 hours.

  • Related: American Federation for Children & Corey A. DeAngelis include illegal alien children and “parents” in model legislation for “school choice!”

It is important to share the fact that many well-funded “conservative” groups in Georgia are pushing hard for “school choice!” and leaving out many of the realities of the actual legislation. Some do not care about illegal immigration. Others, many others, say about the inclusion of illegal aliens in private school benefits that “if we have to educate them, we may as well give them the best education we can…”

The sound you may hear is the stampede from the southern border into the increasingly welcoming Republican state of Georgia.

Unless the Georgia state senate leadership makes some easy changes to SB 601 (the ‘Georgia Educational Freedom Act‘) the Republican-ruled upper chamber may be about to pass a bill that will include illegal alien students and “parents” in state-funded access to a private K-12 school education.

In his SB 601, Senator Butch Miller has adopted most of the model legislation language being pushed nationwide by the American Federation for Children that was contained in the now failed HB 999 and HB 60 from Rep Wes Cantrell. As we wrote yesterday, Miller’s bill was dropped in the senate on Thursday, March 3, assigned to the senate Education and Youth Committee on Friday, March 4 and scheduled for an 8:00 AM hearing on Monday, March 7. Apparently time ran out on the Monday hearing and the bill was heard and quickly passed out 6-4 this morning in a 9:00 AM committee meeting. Although there were at least two pages of names on the sign-up sheet to speak on the bill, no public comment was allowed.

First page of at least two pages of the sign up sheet to speak on SB 601. No public comment was allowed.

I was signed up (on page 2) to speak against passage of the bill in its current form and was ready to offer a real “fix”-  and alternate language. Again: SB 601 was passed out of Dalton Sen. Chuck Payne’s Education and Youth committee without any public comment. This is an increasingly common occurrence in Republican committees under the Gold Dome.

State Senator Chuck Payne.

Fact: Many, if not most, supporters of the “school choice!” bill – including many legislators, do not know what is in it.

Below I list some of the points I intended to share with the committee and the public if I had been allowed to speak.

  • According to the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security, Georgia is home to more illegal aliens than Arizona. And the leftist GBPI says we host more illegal aliens than green card holders.
  •  “The news” tells us that lots more are on their way here.
  •  Illegal immigration, like elections,  has consequences.
  •  This bill does not allow an unlimited number of K-12 students to access the $6000 scholarship to attend private school. The term “subject to appropriations…” is written in various places in the bill. This means the number of students who will receive the promised state funding to pay towards a private school education is limited to how much money is allocated from the budget by the legislature. Put another way, a lot of students are going to be left out of the promised taxpayer-funded private school benefits.
  •  The above fact is easily illustrated by the prescribed method of deciding who is chosen for benefits when funding runs out: See lines 220-224 for that method; It’s a lottery.
  • Why would legislators vote to pass a bill that will surely put illegal aliens in front of Americans in the line for the touted “school choice” process?
  • Lines 71- 75 in the bill do not spell out a real exclusion in state scholarship benefits for illegal aliens. The language is poorly researched and written, incomplete and unworkable.
  • The 1982 Plyler v Doe SCOTUS decision says states must provide a K-12 education to all children regardless of immigration status in public schools. It does not in any way require that taxpayers fund a private school education for illegal aliens.
  • K-12 students are not the only concern in SB 601. According to the language of the bill, it is the “parents” (“biological parent, legal guardian, custodian,” or other person with legal authority to act on behalf of a student”) who have the power to handle and distribute the state funds deposited in an account for the student. “Parents” also make up the committee that would be authorized to have oversight power on the funding approval process for expense items.
  • There are 307 lines of text in the bill detailing every conceivable action and responsibility involved in the “school choice!” process. There are only 4 lines that allegedly deal with keeping illegal aliens out of the system. That is because the model legislation from Corey DeAnglelis and the American Federation for Children intentionally contains no section or text on excluding illegal aliens. Somebody in Georgia who doesn’t know the immigration issue tried to create a “fix.”
  • Because there its no real language that would exclude illegal aliens in the current version of the bill (LC 49 0911) it can and would likely happen that Georgia taxpayers watch as their money goes to put illegal alien students in private schools while Americans are left behind in public schools and while illegal alien “parents” distribute state funds and have official power over state money and the scholarship program.

UPDATE, 8:10 PM: I forgot to include all of this: “To repeat: A landmark SCOTUS decision in 1982 (Plyler v Doe) requires states to offer K-12 education in public schools (not private schools) regardless of the student’s immigration status. It also prevents legally asking a K-12 student about immigration status – same for the student’s parents. You can read a summary or the syllabus.

I tried repeatedly to get a minute with the Lt. Governor’s Chief of Staff Macy McFall to explain all this but never received the hoped for phone call after two visits to the LG’s office today. I was successful in getting about a minute with Sen Miller and a staffer at an elevator to make it clear that his bill does not exclude illegal aliens. I have not yet received the promised follow-up phone call. Update, 8:43 AM March 9: I just called the Lt. Gov’s office and tried to give a heads up on all this to CoS Macy McFall – I got the brush-off. I sent her and other staffers this page via email. Update, 10:40 AM, March 9: Ms. McFall has emailed me to say she is reviewing my write-up.

Thank you Senator Mike Dugan

I am grateful to Senate Majority Leader Mike Dugan for interrupting his lunch to speak to me in the hall so that I could give him and his CoS a heads up. My announced goal was to insure that there are no pleas of ignorance if the Republican senate passes SB 601 without major changes involving illegal immigration.

We have a real “fix”

While I am happy to send line-specific language, the general idea is that the scholarship should be made available to U.S. citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents only. The term “lawful presence” should be struck and there must be wording that requires the “parent (s)” of the eligible student to provide proof of the same status as the student.

I wrote it up here more than month ago.
