Even Trump omits illegal immigration in Georgia as a campaign “issue”

December 7, 2021 By D.A. King

While he ignored the root causes of illegal immigration in a state with more illegal aliens than Arizona and more illegals than green card holders, in 2018 candidate and now-Gov. Brian Kemp made several very clear, detailed and oft-repeated campaign promises on “criminal illegals.” He has been defiant in completely ignoring those promises since then. We have diligently documented this defiance (here and here as file examples).

The Cobb County Republicans  went so far as to censure him for exactly this reason.

The hope was that a viable primary opponent may provide some pressure for Gov. Kemp to at least make a comment or small move to appear concerned about the issue or to take action for the 2022 election.

Former Democrat and now Republican candidate Vernon Jones has been careful to avoid the matter or use Kemp’s broken promises as talking points.

So maybe, many people thought, newly announced Trump-endorsed candidate former Sen. David Perdue will take up the fact that Kemp is silent on illegal immigration in Georgia and make some promises of his own on the crisis. Not so far. Perdue’s initial “issues” are listed below.

We cannot help but notice that even former President Donald Trump – who won the presidency largely on the illegal immigration topic – was careful to avoid illegal immigration in his outline of “why vote for Perdue” and to stay away from Kemp’s anti-enforcement defiance.

David Perdue’s “Bold Vision”

Taken from David Perdue candidacy announcement video – 11 Alive TV news, Atlanta

*Eliminate state income tax.

*Make cities and state safe again.

*Take charge of our schools/put parents in charge again.

*Fight Biden’s overreaching mandates.

*Not allow Stacey Abrams control of elections..

_

Trump outline of Perdue agenda in endorsement

Taken from The Hill – “Trump endorses David Perdue in Georgia’s governor race.”

“Most importantly, he can’t win because the MAGA base—which is enormous—will never vote for him,” Trump said. “David Perdue will

*eliminate the Income Tax,

*secure the Elections,

*defend the Second Amendment,

*support our great Farmers,

*get crime in Atlanta and other places under control,

*take care of our great Vets,

*and put parents back in charge of the schools,” Trump added.

_

So, no illegal immigration? No “criminal illegals…?”

We will be very grateful if someone points out something we overlooked.

Both leading Republican candidates for Georgia’s 2022 U.S. Senate race have supported immigration amnesty

A Washington friend asked me to outline what is happening in Georgia with the 2022 race for U.S. Senate related to immigration. I explained that reading the liberal Atlanta Journal Constitutionwould not give him a full picture.

_____

The story so far.

Elected in 2010, career Big Ag lobbyist and Georgia’s current Commissioner of Agriculture, Gary Black, went to Washington in 2011 and recommended to a U.S. Senate panel that illegal alien farm labor be legalized. They should be required to remain in the farm industry to keep their renewable work permits, he said.

Georgia state Rep Kasey Carpenter to a hand-picked expert tech witness – House Study Committee on Innovative Ways to Maximize Global Talent Oct 21, 2021

October 27, 2021 By D.A. King

Georgia House Study Committee on Innovative Ways to Maximize Global Talent
Rep Kasey Carpenter: (30:59)

“Thank you, uh, Chairman. Uh, just as real quick question, just trying to understand the software industry and the coding industry. Uh, do you feel like companies have, have set this bar of only looking for senior level, making sure that junior level have all this work experience, but yet they outsource the lower level stuff maybe out of the country, and there’s no pipeline to back fill all that, and there’s gonna be a huge issue moving forward? And obviously, there already is, ’cause you read online all the time that we don’t have enough software folks, we’re having to import folks in. And, and to me that appears to be what the issue is, right? Is that we’ve not done a, a good job filling that pipeline, uh, ’cause we, we’ve decided as a country to look outside the country first and then we dry the pipeline up. Is that a fair assessment?”

The 2022 Georgia Senate race, Gary Black, Herschel Walker, Brian Kemp, Trump and the liberal AJC

October 20, 2021 By D.A. King

Both leading Republican candidates for Georgia’s 2022 U.S. Senate race have supported immigration amnesty

A Washington friend asked me to outline what is happening in Georgia with the 2022 race for U.S. Senate related to immigration. I explained that reading the liberal Atlanta Journal Constitution would not give him a full picture.

See here for a link to Black’s Senate testimony.

GA Ag Commissioner and U.S. senate candidate Gary Black – Photo: Politico
Senator Rev. Raphael G. Warnock.Photo AJC.

Gary Black is now a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate to replace pro amnesty Democrat Raphael Warnock.

Agriculture is Georgia’s largest industry. Republicans control the state Capitol – as much as the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and Big Ag allow.

Georgia media treats Black’s amnesty and indentured servitude advocacy as a closely guarded secret. This includes the uber-liberal Atlanta Journal Constitution.  And some establishment Republican talk show hosts.

Black is the donor class choice for the 2022 Republican senate primary, which is illustrated by the fact that former Governor Nathan Deal has endorsed him. So have about seventy-five Georgia sheriffs and a long list of Republican state legislators – few of whom, we suspect, are aware of his past call for amnesty. We think it likely that few care.

Enter Trump-pushed senate hopeful and now front runner Georgia football icon Herschel Walker who finally announced his own candidacy in late August. Big on “unity,” Walker was slow to put out a real campaign platform or position on “issues” until news broke this week about his past call for immigration amnesty.

Photo: AP.

Yesterday the liberal AJC ran a story on Walker and a 2015 statement he made regarding amnesty.

“He told USA Today in August 2015 that he supports Trump’s idea of building a wall along the U.S. border with Mexico but disagreed with his plan to deport millions of immigrants living in the country illegally. He also said then that he’d back a proposal that enables such immigrants to earn citizenship” goes the AJC report. Update: Walker on controlling the border and the economy to the UGA College Republicans – January 13, 2022 .

The next day (Oct 19) the AJC political blog (“The Jolt”) reported that Gary Black created and is airing a radio ad hitting Walker for his immigration stance.

As of late October 19, the AJC still has not reported on Black’s amnesty advocacy or the indentured servitude angle. I waited until the daily AJC political blog was posted this AM to put this up. No mention of Gary Black’s call for amnesty. Some news is apparently more news than other news…

It’s a good bet the liberal AJC plans on keeping Black’s secret as long as they can. Meantime, pro-amnesty Democrat incumbent Warnock has (updated amount from “9 million”) $17 million cash on hand.

The Herschel Walker camp has not disputed or backed away from his 2015 comments on amnesty but has put out a statement that includes the below moldy-oldie dodge:

“America is a nation of immigrants, and Herschel strongly supports those who follow the process to legally enter this country,” said Walker campaign spokesperson Mallory Blount. “He has several dear friends who have done so. We have a humanitarian and illegal immigration crisis at our southern border that career politicians have created.

“When you have a leak, you fix it. Any conversations about immigration have to start with finally securing our southern border and Herschel will work to make that happen, unlike our current senators.” – Capitol Beat News Service.

We don’t think the advisors in Walker’s campaign have a clue about visa overstays and that more than half of the illegal aliens in the U.S. today did not come over the border illegally. Voters either. It’s not included in “the news” from the AJC.

Did we mention that Walker is in the race because Trump pushed his candidacy? It is good to see that Walker is urging people to actually vote in the coming election.

Also relevant is an October 4, 2021 AJC story finally breaking the news that some pro-enforcement Georgia Republicans are not happy with the betrayal by Gov Brian Kemp. A large metro-Atlanta area county GOP group censured the Republican Governor for, among other things, ignoring his detailed 2018 campaign promises on illegal immigration.

The agenda-driven AJC editors headline described Kemp’s pledge to go after “criminal illegals” and sanctuary cities as being “anti-immigration.” It helps outsiders understanding of “news” in Atlanta to know that the AJC served as dinner Chair for a MALDEF fundraiser here.

We are desperately seeking pro-enforcement candidates for the U.S. Senate and governor – and refer to our GOP-ruled state as ‘Georgiafornia.’

Fast Fact: Jeanne Seaver, pro-enforcement candidate for Lt. Gov comes out against foreign cops in Georgia

September 19, 2021 By D.A. King

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Seaver for Lt. Governor, Inc.
Phone: 912-663-8728

Jeanne Seaver – Republican Candidate for Lt. Governor declares her opposition to the concept of foreign nationals as law enforcement officers in Georgia.

Savannah, September 19, 2021- Jeanne Seaver made the following statement on the push by powerful lobbying groups on changing current state law addressing law enforcement powers and U.S. citizenship.

“All certified law enforcement officers in Georgia should be American citizens,” says Seaver. “Like most commonsense Georgians, I am steadfast in my opposition to changing current state law that already requires our courageous law enforcement officers to be Americans. I have recently received many calls and emails asking about a well-funded and repeated push by at least one influential special interest group advancing the concept that we should alter state law so as to allow non-citizens to be certified, armed law enforcement officers in Georgia.”

Seaver first became aware of the matter in reports from the Insider Advantage Georgia news outlet and the Immigration Politics GA website.

“This disturbing idea is part of a quiet push to eliminate supposed ‘barriers to the foreign-born’ and includes an additional effort to relax verification of legal immigration status in our occupational licensing process. I want to make it very clear that legislation that would roll back security and public safety would not move in the Georgia senate when I am Lt. Governor.”

“Including my opponents, I call on all Georgia candidates for public office to take a public stand on this dangerous and pandering insanity” said Seaver.

Seaver was equally firm in her support for reasonable levels of legal immigration and welcoming all who have come to the U.S. lawfully in search of a better life.

“Georgians happily welcome legally present workers of all descriptions. But we reject the idea that we should make it easier for illegal immigrants to obtain any help or approval to do business or find employment in the Peach State.”

Will Georgia legalize foreign police officers? – House committee on “barriers” to foreign nationals meeting again in Dalton, Sept 9 *Updated 2/4

September 6, 2021 By D.A. King

August House Committee meeting

Updated Sept 8, 3:04 PM –

Just in: “The meeting will be held in Brown Hall, room 105. Brown Hall is located at the north end of our campus. When you enter the building, you will go down the stairs immediately in front of you & the room is at the foot of the stairs. There is a large parking lot adjacent to the building that you may utilize.

The GPS address is Brown Hall, 2206 Mt Haven Drive. Dalton, GA.”

Pro-American voters in North Georgia should attend the next meeting of the ‘House Study Committee on Innovative Ways to Maximize Global Talent’ when it meets again at Dalton State College on September 9, 2021 (10:30 AM). It’s a great opportunity to get a sample of what you miss by not being in the Georgia Capitol during the legislative session. Thursday’s meeting is the second of three scheduled hearings for the committee assigned to recommend ways to eliminate “barriers” for foreign nationals in the state economy that supposedly exist in Georgia law.

In the first meeting we heard leftist activist Darlene Lynch explain that “restrictions” should be lifted that currently require law enforcement officers in Georgia to be U.S. citizens. And an illegal alien who is paid to lobby legislators under the Gold Dome – Jaime Rangel – explained that illegal aliens should pay less tuition than U.S. citizens and legal immigrants in Georgia’s public universities. A refugee from Africa explained that she should be paid more taxpayer money every month so that she could go to school instead of working. We wrote that meeting up here. It’s worth a read. Hit the links.

Look for more of the same from the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and other assorted open borders types at Thursday’s meeting. Dalton’s own Rep Kasey Carpenter is a committee member. Conservative testimony not permitted. I plan on wearing my Dog & Pony Show clothes.

The official meeting notice is (finally) here. The program and players agenda is pasted below.

Georgia House committee with immigration focus solicits one-sided, activist input 1/4

August 25, 2021 By D.A. King

Georgia House Committee, August 19, 2021

Study Committee on Innovative Ways to Maximize Global Talent (including foreign cops) excludes pro-American worker voices

“Foreign-born” depicted as victims of over regulation in Georgia economy

Readers who would oppose state legislation to allow foreign nationals to be certified law enforcement officers in Georgia may want to prepare their resistance. It’s a goal of one participant in last week’s meeting of the ‘House Study Committee on Innovative Ways to Maximize Global Talent.’

Many thanks to Insider Advantage Georgia for last week’s news report (pay wall) educating readers on the existence of this committee and the Clarkston – located meeting.

Chairman Rep Wes Cantrell (R) – Woodstock) outlined his committee’s purpose at the August 19 meeting “…this committee has been formed to identify and make recommendations for removal of any barriers that limit the impact of our foreign-born population.” He made it clear input from the corporate-funded “expert” witnesses had been solicited.

Rep Wes Cantrell Republican, Woodstock.

The speakers offered repeated attempts to blur any distinction in context between “foreign-born” and residents who are foreign nationals. Most Georgians, including this one, don’t have a problem with naturalized Americans becoming law enforcement officers. But that’s not what the activist from Business & Immigration for Georgia Darlene C. Lynch was selling.

“We have outdated barriers and regulations that are preventing people from contributing to the economy. Foreign-born people who worked with the U.S. military in Afghanistan in the military security system who can’t be police officers in their own community in Georgia because we have restrictive regulations in Georgia” was part of Lynch’s presentation.

What is the “restrictive regulation?” Police officers in Georgia must be U.S. citizens.

There were many references to “barriers” for “foreign-born Georgians”, but little detail on exactly what barriers are in place keeping any legally present individual from full participation in the Georgia economy. We won’t be surprised to see an expansion of the agenda. Will the state E-Verify laws requiring verification of work eligibility for newly hired employees come up as an “outdated barrier” in a future meeting?  We’ll see.

There was no opportunity for public input beyond the pre-arranged witnesses. There should be.

This pro-enforcement writer is a long-time, reluctant denizen of the Gold Dome who has assisted lawmakers with legislation aimed at discouraging illegal immigration by deterring access to illegal employment and illegal access to public benefits. After attending last Tuesday’s event I asked for the opportunity to provide more realistic input in either of the two upcoming committee meetings. That request was quickly denied.

It may be true that the first 236 names in the Hahira phone directory have at least as much knowledge on immigration as most Georgia legislators. So the day’s entry-level lesson for the committee had a segment on “key terms.”

Legislators were told that an “immigrant” is “a person who has left their country of nationality to live permanently in a new country.” This is true in a dictionary, but not in practice. Managing language and the endless effort to blur any line between legal immigrants and illegal aliens is the bedrock of the open border lobbying effort. Georgia is home to more illegal aliens than green card holders.

Real immigrants do not require amnesty

The mindset presented to the attentive committee is that the million-plus illegal aliens who have already crossed our southern border this year are merely “immigrants.” And the foreign-born who routinely enter the U.S. on legal, non-immigrant, temporary visas and become illegal aliens when they refuse to leave are as worthy of accommodation as the million foreign-born we naturalize every year. Fact: For the seventh consecutive year, in 2019 visa overstays exceeded illegal border crossings (NPR).

Not all committee members are elected officials

The committee on eliminating “barriers” has two non-legislator members who will effect the coming recommendations for any legislation.

Legislators are Wes Cantrell (R), Woodstock (Chair), Kasey Carpenter (R), Dalton, Mike Cheokas (R), Americus, Angelika Kausche, (D), Johns Creek and Spencer Frye, (D), Athens.  Carpenter was absent.

Also Shushma Barakoti from the Refugee Women’s Network and Rene Diaz, CEO of Diaz Foods. Diaz is a past Atlanta Business Chronicle ‘Top 100 Most Influential Atlantans.’ He and his wife Barbara are a “Buckhead Power Couple.” Diaz is also Founding Friend of the well-known anti-enforcement, immigration lobbying group GALEO Inc.

One of the witnesses on a panel discussion was an illegal alien DACA recipient, Jaime Rangel – who is a lobbyist under the Gold Dome for Mark Zuckerburg’s pro-amnesty FWDus.

Rep. Spencer Frye

For this writer, the most irrelevant, eye-rolling remarks of the day came from state Rep Spencer Frye as he introduced himself to the room. “Unless anybody in here is full-blooded American Indian, I reckon we’re all immigrants of some sort.”  Frye did not speculate on from where the Indians migrated. But he did follow with “while I look like I look, I am absolutely descended from immigrants to the United States of America.”

Official House video of the committee meeting  here. Photos here. Program and players here. The next meeting is at Dalton State College, September 9th and a final meeting in the state Capitol in early October.

A version of this column originally appeared (August 25, 2021) on the subscription outlet Insider Advantage Georgia as an OPED.

Letter to Georgia Piedmont Technical College President Dr. Tavarez Holston – Re: Georgia driving and ID credentials used as validation of ‘lawful presence’ * Updated #DACA

August 20, 2021 By D.A. King

“Georgia issues drivers licenses to illegal aliens. Illegal aliens do not have ‘lawful presence.’”

*Update: Several days after we sent the below letter we received a phone call from a high-ranking official at TCSG acknowledging the errors and informing us that the related website (s) were being corrected and that no illegal aliens had been granted admission to any TSCG school.

20 August 2021

Dr. Tavarez Holston
President – Georgia Piedmont Technical College

495 North Indian Creek Drive
Clarkston, GA 30021

Re: Your use of Georgia driving and ID credentials as validation of ‘lawful presence’ for instate tuition purposes.

Dr. Holston,

It is my educated opinion that there exists a serious flaw in your system for allowing students to validate ‘lawful presence’ for purposes of receiving instate tuition. I intend to see this apparent breach of security and compliance corrected and that any student who is not eligible for instate tuition and is currently paying that rate is charged the out-of-state scale. I assume this will require an audit of your past records.

On your ‘new student’ page at the school’s website you have a section on ‘Provide Verification of Lawful Presence in the United States’ that clearly allows students to present a Georgia drivers license and/or a ID card as “validation” of lawful presence:

“Effective January 1, 2012, all students applying for in-state tuition must provide validation of lawful presence in the United States. The following documents will serve as proof of lawful presence in the United States and documentation will be required before you are eligible for consideration of in-state tuition:

  • A current Driver’s License issued by the State of Georgia after January 1, 2008
  • A current ID issued by the State of Georgia after January 1, 2008…”

Georgia issues drivers licenses to illegal aliens. Illegal aliens do not have ‘lawful presence.’

As one example, reports from DDS tell us more than 20,000 illegal aliens who are recipients of the illegal DACA program have been issued these driving and ID credentials. States are fully within their rights to issue drivers licenses and ID Cards to whomever they choose, but these documents in no way demonstrate, validate, prove or indicate ‘lawful presence.’

As someone who has worked on the illegal immigration crisis in the Georgia Capitol since 2004, I am appalled but not surprised to see this “validation” practice in a taxpayer-funded college.

I am sending this letter electronically so as to more efficiently provide your office with needed information for your education.

Directed only at the aforementioned DACA recipients, here are some quotes from other educated sources, which I hope will expand on my claim. To be clear: Deferred action on deportation does indeed make an illegal alien eligible for a Georgia driving and or ID credential. It does not in any way bestow or validate ‘lawful presence.’

* The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against DACA recipient student’s claims of ‘lawful presence’ in Georgia in 2019. On page 26 of the March 2019 11th Circuit opinion the court wrote: “As explained above, appellants are not lawfully present in the United States.”
* “As DACA recipients, they simply were given a reprieve from potential removal; that does not mean they are in any way ‘lawfully present under the (INA) act.” (11th circuit court in the same opinion as above).

* “We have continuously and clearly taken the position in ongoing legal cases that DACA does not confer legal status…”  Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr to WABE News, July, 2017.

* “Illegal immigrants who are granted permission to stay in the country under an Obama administration policy that was announced in June will be eligible for drivers’ licenses in Georgia the state’s attorney general wrote in a letter to the governor.” The Associated Press (writer Kate Brumback) 2012, via the Augusta Chronicle.

In the interest of space and time I will limit my citations to the above for the present time.

It is my contention that if your institution has awarded instate tuition rates to DACA recipients because they were deemed “lawfully present,” you are acting in conflict with state law. I urge you to remove the instructions to students cited above and to adjust your policy and correct any incorrect tuition rates now being granted.

I trust you will regard this heads up as the well-intentioned effort from a concerned taxpayer it is meant to be. I respectfully assure you we will follow up on this very disturbing matter. Please call on me if I can be of any further assistance.

I would be grateful for a reply.

Sincerely,

D.A. King
