Trump Fires TVA Chair for Hiring Foreign Workers

August 4, 2020 By D.A. King

President Donald Trump. Photo: Cleveland.com

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said Monday that he had fired the chair of the Tennessee Valley Authority, criticizing the federal-owned corporation for hiring foreign workers.

Trump told reporters at the White House that he was formally removing chair Skip Thompson and another member of the board, and he threatened to remove other board members if they continued to hire foreign labor.

The TVA is a federally owned corporation created in 1933 to provide flood control, electricity generation, fertilizer manufacturing and economic development to the Tennessee Valley, a region that was hard hit by the Great Depression. The region covers most of Tennessee and parts of Alabama, Mississippi and Kentucky as well as small sections of Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia.

He also said the TVA board must immediately hire a new chief executive officer who “puts the interests of Americans first.” According to Trump, the CEO, Jeff Lyash, earns $8 million a year.

“The new CEO must be paid no more than $500,000 a year,” Trump said. “We want the TVA to take action on this immediately. … Let this serve as a warning to any federally appointed board: If you betray American workers, you will hear two words: ‘You’re fired.’”… more

There’s ‘DACA’ and then there is more DACA? – Congressional candidates should be asked about amnesty

July 17, 2020 By D.A. King

Illegal alien DACA recipient protesting for legalization. 2019 Photo: Texas Tribune

President Trump recently set off a firestorm of criticism from conservatives recently when he indicated his administration may push for some sort of amnesty for some illegal aliens and mentioned the DACA program. Questions should be asked about the deferred action on deportation for childhood arrivals, known as DACA and candidates position on legalization for illegal aliens.

We assume everyone concerned understands that the U.S. instituted an amnesty program in 1986 that was presented as a “one time” action that would legalize about a million and a half illegals and would be the end all solution to illegal immigration. The 1986 amnesty actually legalized almost three million illegal aliens. Most experts on both sides of the debate say it caused an increase in illegal immigration. We are told that there are at least 11 million illegal aliens in the USA today.

At about 375,000 to 400,000, DHS says Georgia is home to more illegal aliens than Arizona and the anti-enforcement Georgia Budget and Policy Institute shows that we have more illegals than Lawful Permanent Residents (green card holders). Estimates from the Federation for Immigration Reform are that illegal immigration costs Georgians about $2.5 billion each year.

When the topic of former president Obama’s DACA executive amnesty comes up, most media coverage leaves out important facts that should be part of the conversation.

DACA recipients are “inadmissible and thus removable” under federal law.

Illegal aliens who have been awarded deferred action on deportation proceedings through the DACA amnesty by both the Obama and Trump administrations are illegal aliens and do not have “lawful presence” says the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. The decision was handed down March 6, 2019. Here.

An honest discussion of an amnesty for “DACA” should recognize three groups of illegal aliens.

United We Dream poster in support of illegal alien “dreamers.” Twitter.
  • Group one: The number of illegal aliens that now have DACA status according to federal figures (March, 2020) presented by the Migration Policy Institute (see interactive map for state numbers) in Washington: 643,560. It should be noted that originally, almost 800,000 illegal aliens received the DACA benefit but some have lost that status due to criminal offense and some have used DACA to become U.S. citizens.
  • Group two: The number of illegal aliens that would be eligible for DACA (using the Obama guidelines set forth in 2012) if President Trump had not ended acceptance of new applications in September, 2017: 1,326,000
  • Group three – Call it the “next DACA generation.” The number of children who illegally crossed the border in recent years and who will soon be part of the demand for expanding DACA or creating a system of legalization for children who came over our borders as minors with or without parents. This number is estimated at at least one million by the Center for Immigration Studies in Washington.

Note that this figure is not static and will increase. Any conversation should include the topic of recurring legalization “for the children.”

*UPDATE, July 18, 2020:Federal court restores DACA after Supreme Court ruling

We must recognize that all sides agree that at least half of the illegal aliens in the nation today did not cross the border illegally but came on temporary visas and then refused to leave. For example, imaging a family that comes with a temporary worker or visitor on a tourist visa and instead of departing as agreed, simply buys a home and enrolls the now illegal aliens children in American schools and waits for another amnesty.

Visa overstays in 2019 are put at 497,272 by DHS. See page V here.

We note that there is little if any reference to the illegal alien parents who used their children to anchor themselves in the U.S. and are still living, working and driving in Georgia and the U.S. illegally while using stolen or fraudulent ID and Social Security numbers.

Finally, it must be noted that amnesty by any name does not result in increased Hispanic votes for Republicans. After the “one time” Reagan amnesty of 1986, Hispanics rewarded Republican George H.W. Bush with 30% of their vote – tough-talking Trump got 29% in 2016. We think amnesty is mostly for the benefit of the special interests in the business lobby.

Candidates for congress should be asked their plans and positions on solutions and if they will vote to legalize any illegal aliens and if so, what part of the above groups of “victims of borders.”

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms allowed activist council member to intercede on armed protesters’ behalf before child was shot and killed

July 9, 2020 By D.A. King

“I called in a couple of artists. I called in neighborhood people. What I said was, ‘Guys, let’s bring some healing to this site,'” Sheperd said. “I told people to bring flowers. There was singing. There was a lot of stuff going on for healing.”

Before an innocent 8 year-old girl was shot and killed, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said she allowed a city council member to negotiate with armed protesters who were blocking a city street.

Secoriea Turner was killed July 4 after gunmen opened fire on her mother’s SUV as she attempted to turn around in an BLM occupied University Avenue parking lot.

From the the liberal AJC:

“In a wide-ranging interview Wednesday with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution editorial board, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said police had planned on clearing the area weeks earlier but were encouraged to wait after City Councilmember Joyce Sheperd requested more time to negotiate with activists.

“That was not the administration’s position,” Bottoms said. But ultimately, it was the mayor’s call (more “mayor’s call” here).

Those negotiations came amid numerous reports of violence. There were at least two other shootings, at least one beating and multiple reports of threats against people approaching the site.

“Don’t make any sudden moves, or you will get shot,” an armed demonstrator told an AJC columnist reporting from the scene last month.

“I called in a couple of artists. I called in neighborhood people. What I said was, ‘Guys, let’s bring some healing to this site,'” Sheperd said. “I told people to bring flowers. There was singing. There was a lot of stuff going on for healing.”

But when armed people started blocking the road as if they were operating a checkpoint, Sheperd said she, along with area residents, told them to stop. After Brooks’ funeral on June 23, police cleared the barricades. Sheperd said she never saw the road blocked again and was encouraged that tensions were easing.

She acknowledged morale among Atlanta police officers was very low, referring to a recent conversation with Interim Police Chief Rodney Bryant, who told her “the wounds were deep.”

Anti-enforcement Marxists likely to see another success against cowering GOP majority state legislature UPDATED

July 1, 2020 By D.A. King

Georgia Capitol Building. Photo: Twitter

UPDATE: Gov Kemp signed the bill described below on the last possible day, August 5, 2020.

The road to Georgiafornia

Led by a Mexican citizen, Adelina Nichols, the anti-borders Marxists at the Georgia Latino Alliance for Human Rights (GLAHR) are demanding that Georgia’s governor veto just-passed legislation intended to offer additional protections to law enforcement officers and other first responders for “biased motivated crimes.”

HB 838 was passed as an attempt at saving face and as a distraction for conservative voters by the trembling Republican legislators who voted for passage of a thought crimes bill under pressure from the Chambers of Commerce, the Democrats – including Marxist Black Lives Matter and Antifa rioters who have been terrorizing Americans in Atlanta and around the country for more than a month.

Protections for police was included in the committee process of the hate crimes legislation later passed by the Republicans, but was removed when the GOP majority caved to the Democrats and the BLM rioters.

“We’ve had ongoing discussions with the minority party for the large part of two days and within our own Republican caucus and we’ve reached a compromise that I think everybody will be pleased with,” state Sen. Bill Cowsert (R) said, ABC News reported.

Georgia state Senator Bill Cowsert.

Governor Kemp was quick to sign the hate crimes capitulation legislation and that bill becomes law today.

Below is a Twitter post from GLAHR on the measure designed to protect police:

Photo: GLAHR Twitter

After reviewing the legislation, the ACLU has noted that it can be interpreted to actually reduce penalties for killing a police officer. The liberal AJC happily wrote that up here.

Note that the GLAHR objection to the poorly crafted bill isn’t that it a poorly crafted bill, but that it is somehow “anti-Black Lives Matter.”

We predict that Kemp will veto this one. We blame massive incompetence.

Rioters Fly Mexican Flags as American Flags are Torched Across U.S. – PHOTOS

June 15, 2020 By D.A. King

Image: Getty/AP via Breitbart News

Rioters across the United States have waved Mexican flags in various American cities to protest the death of George Floyd, allegedly at the hands of a Minneapolis, Minnesota, police officer.

While rioters waved Mexican flags, American flags were routinely burned at riots in Los Angeles, California, Atlanta, Georgia, Portland, Oregon; and Chicago, Illinois.

In one video posted online, a rioter with a Mexican flag can be seen helping beat a man who was carrying and waving an American flag. In another post, rioters in Los Angeles torched an American flag while rioters with Mexican flags attacked police vehicles.

No more jail! Anti-Borders Marxists to Atlanta’s Mayor: “It is time to end the cruel, unnecessary, and unhelpful incarceration of all human beings…”

May 29, 2020 By D.A. King

Photo: College of Liberal and Creative Arts, San Francisco State University

(Note: Atlanta’s mayor has already signed legislation to close the city’s jail)

The letter pasted below was sent to the mayor of Atlanta recently and distributed on May 28, 2020. I have added a few educational links to the letter. My links are noted with an *asterisk.

Photo: CBS 46

The letter below:

Dear Members of the Atlanta City Council:

We, as *immigrants’ rights organizations, write this letter to urge you to support an upcoming budget amendment that will finally close the city jail and redirect the $18 million currently allocated to the Atlanta Department of Corrections (ADOC) in the proposed 2020-21 city budget to services to promote the health and wellness of all Atlantans.

To date, while *the City of Atlanta terminated the contract with ICE, ACDC to this day still incarcerates our community members, primarily on minor or petty offenses. It is time to end the cruel, unnecessary, and unhelpful incarceration of all human beings at ACDC.  The city’s commitment to close and *repurpose the jail cannot be reconciled with allocating millions of dollars to its operation in the coming year. At a time of public health crisis and a loss of millions in the City’s revenue, it is unconscionable for the City of Atlanta to spend $18 million to continue to operate a jail that sits mostly empty and is already slated for closure and repurposing.

We ask that you support the amendment to zero out the FY21 budget for the Department of Corrections and announce a date certain for the jail’s closure.

Just two years ago, many of our organizations testified before the City Council on the human rights violations occurring at the Atlanta City Detention Center (ACDC), and called for terminating the contract with ICE and closing the jail altogether. These violations, described at length in Project South and Georgia Detention Watch’s 2018 Report titled, Inside Atlanta’s Immigrant Cages, highlighted: lack of medical care and mental health care, unsanitary living conditions, lack of edible food, abusive labor practices, lack of religious accommodations, verbal abuse by officers, overuse and abusive use of solitary confinement, and more.[1]

After years of advocacy from community organizations to close the detention center and end immigration detention in Atlanta, the Mayor created an advisory committee to make a recommendation as to whether the City of Atlanta should end the contract with ICE that allowed for the detention of immigrants at ACDC. After hearing from directly impacted individuals who *testified to the horrid conditions at the facility and urged the Mayor to shut the facility down, the advisory committee recommended that the mayor end the contract to detain immigrants with ICE. The committee recognized that detaining immigrants at ACDC was inhumane.

*Terminating the contract with ICE was an important step towards Atlanta becoming a more welcoming city – one that prioritizes community-based care and support over punitive spaces for warehousing human beings. In the year that followed, we heard from organizers and residents throughout the city of Atlanta who are ready to see the jail closed, and the Mayor committed to shutting down and repurposing ACDC. Over the past two years, we were proud to see Atlanta praised, both locally and nationally for the collaborative development of a bold and compassionate plan to divest from incarceration and invest in real solutions for Atlanta’s marginalized communities.

Now more than ever, we must put an end to locking people in cages for petty offenses such as jaywalking and disorderly conduct, wasting desperately needed resources, criminalizing people for being poor, and making us all less safe.

We respectfully ask that you support our proposal and vote to zero out this year’s budget for the Department of Corrections and set a date for the jail’s closure.

 Sincerely,

 *

Radio Show Recommendation: Learn from Pro-Enforcement Immigration Experts on The El Conservador Radio Show with George Rodriquez

April 27, 2020 By D.A. King

George Rodriguez, El Conservador. Photo: 930AMThe Answer.com

I am not aware of an educated, fearless, pro-enforcement immigration voice in the extremely slim pickings of conservative Georgia radio. But I have only been fighting illegal immigration here since 2003.

For readers who want to hear interviews and news on America’s illegal immigration crisis that is not filtered by the anti-enforcement establishment, we proudly recommend the El Conservador Radio Show with George Rodriquez from 930 AM The Answer from Antonio, Texas, USA. You can listen online anytime you choose. While all George’s shows are interesting and educational, we hope you will start online listening with his April 25, 2020 show on which George hosts a very impressive list of expert voices including former ICE Director Tom Homan (Tom’s new book here), Dan Lyman from Info-Wars/Europe, Dave Ray from FAIR in D.C., and Todd Bensman from Center for Immigration Studies.

From his bio:
“George Rodriguez is a nationally known blogger and commentator who has served the South Texas State coordinator for the national Tea Party Patriots, is regular guest on Fox News, Univision and various state and national news outlets. He has also spoken around the nation at many rallies.
George was born in Laredo, Texas, and raised in San Antonio. He has dedicated his life to sharing conservative values with Hispanics and all Americans. As a Ronald Reagan and George H. Bush appointee, George worked with the Department of Justice in community relations and immigration outreach. He also worked with the White House Office of Public Liaison on community outreach, with Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) on judiciary legislation including civil rights and immigration, and with Congressman Tom Delay on Hispanic outreach.”
Please see the rest of the very impressive bio here.

We also note that along with Mr. Homan and a list of other immigration authorities, George was kind enough to travel from South Texas to speak at the ‘Honoring Immigrants, an Expert, Pro-Enforcement Discussion on Immigration‘ event held by the Dustin Inman Society on February 8 here in the Atlanta area. We posted photos of that surprise snow-day program on the Dustin Inman Society blog page.

Coca-Cola supported illegal alien lobby (GALEO) sues Gwinnett County, GA for foreign language mail-in ballots

April 14, 2020 By D.A. King

Image: Bklyner

Including the corporate-funded Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials (GALEO), a collection of leftist groups has filed suit in federal court “demanding that Gwinnett County provide bilingual absentee ballot applications to Spanish speaking voters.”

“Sending English-only absentee ballot applications in a diverse county covered under Section 203 is yet another attempt at voter suppression, which is a direct violation of the constitutional rights,” said Kristen Clarke, Executive Director of the Lawyers’ Committee. “With Georgia’s primary election looming, it is imperative that Gwinnett County and other Georgia counties comply with their obligations under the Voting Rights Act and permit Spanish-speaking voters an equal opportunity to cast their ballot and have their voice heard.”

Section 203 is the Language Provisions of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) which requires that certain states and political subdivisions provide language assistance during elections for certain language minority groups who are unable to speak or understand English adequately enough to participate in the electoral process.

It is illegal for an alien to vote and one of the requirements for naturalization is the ability to read, write, and speak basic English.

The entire press release from the group of advocates for foreign language voting can be read here on the GALEO website.

The emergency lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia which is the court for which a then-GALEO board member, Dax Lopez, was nominated to serve a lifetime appointment by then President Barack Obama in 2015. Lopez currently serves as a state court judge in metro-Atlanta’s DeKalb County and was active on the GALEO board as a sitting judge. The road to the federal court seat was blocked in the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee by Georgia Senator David Perdue after he was educated on the GALEO agenda and it’s anti-enforcement and anti-official English advocacy. Senator Perdue declined to return the traditional “blue slip” which would have signaled his approval of the nominee.

2015 Dustin Inman Society online educational flyer on GALEO and Dax Lopez

The Dustin Inman Society (this writer is president of the Dustin Inman Society) is proud to have organized and led the fight to expose GALEO and Lopez’ association with the group.  GALEO, led by former Democrat fundraiser and MALDEF lobbyist Jerry Gonzalez is  known for marching in the streets of Atlanta in opposition of enforcement of immigration law. GALEO is widely supported by corporate Georgia, including well-known companies such as Coca-Cola, Georgia Power, State Farm Ins. Co., Telemundo, Western Union, Univision and a range of immigration lawyers. Gonzalez was recently quoted in an Atlanta area newspaper as opposing employment record verification as a “white nationalist agenda.”

Several Georgia Republicans who then held state level elected office including now Governor Brian Kemp, former state Rep and now U.S. Attorney for the Northern District Court, ‘BJay’ Pak, and then Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens have also helped GALEO with fundraising with attendance at at least one 2015 funder.

The Dustin Inman Society will follow up on the foreign language voting lawsuit as information becomes available.

Republican House Higher Education Chairman on instate tuition for illegal aliens: “We’re going to work toward something in the next legislative session…”

March 12, 2020 By D.A. King

GA State rep Chuck Martin, Chairman, House Higher Education Committee. Photo: Ga General Assembly.

Georgia state Rep Chuck Martin, Chairman of the House Higher education Committee is quoted in the liberal AJC as saying that the legislature will work on rewarding illegal aliens with instate tuition next year.

From the liberal AJC: “Chairman Chuck Martin, R-Alpharetta, did not motion for the committee to vote on the bill, and he said it could conflict with federal immigration law. He said he wants to wait for a U.S. Supreme Court decision on DACA that’s expected later this year.”

“We’re going to work toward something in the next legislative session” is the quote from Rep Chuck Martin concerning changing state law so that illegal aliens could access the lower tuition rate that is not available to Americans from other states like Michigan or Ohio, for example.

Martin was commenting on his committee’s lack of a vote to advance a bill from Dalton Republican Kasey Carpenter (HB 997) and several Democrat cosponsors that would have changed state law so that illegal aliens would be eligible for the much lower instate tuition rate from which they are now excluded. The story from the liberal AJC can be read here.

Kemp contacts House members on HB444 – continuing to allow illegal aliens to receive no-cost college seats #DualEnrollment

HB444 billed as ‘reform’ to dual enrollment program but does not change lack of screening for illegals

*UPDATE – 8:50 PM. I  was informed about 5:30 this evening that although it wasn’t on the Rules calendar, while I was writing the below column, House leadership put the HB444 bill on members desks and held a surprise vote today. This was done because we were shining way too much light on the DE program and the bill. Too many House Reps were starting to ask questions. They voted about 12:30-ish I am told. The bill passed (they agreed to senate version).

Never let it be said that Gov Kemp and Speaker Ralston won’t work together.

“They shoved it down our throats. If I had known all this, I never would have voted to agree” one GOP Rep told me this evening.

__*UPDATED with vote records March 6, 2020 10:48AM. See bottom of column.

Spoiler alert to this post: While it is billed as a way to produce a more educated workforce, the Georgia dual enrollment program allows high school students to attend public universities at zero tuition cost. It has no verification system to keep illegal aliens out of the taxpayer-funded system. And, unless they have the Obama DACA amnesty, which provides a work permit, illegal aliens are not eligible to work anywhere in the United States.

It seems that Gov. Kemp’s office is quite anxious to see his dual enrollment “reform” bill (HB444) passed and is contacting House members to gauge support. A note from Kemp’s Deputy Director of External Affairs, Stuart Wilkinson, to House members (apparently only GOP members) illustrates the urgency and interest. Delivered to members yesterday, this came to us from several pro-enforcement lawmakers:

“Good Afternoon,

We understand that HB 444, the Governor’s dual enrollment bill, will be called for an agree this week. The Governor hopes he can count on your support with a YES vote. Please let us know if there are any issues you want to discuss or are not able to vote YES.

Thanks,

Stuart Wilkinson”

The dual enrollment program (DE) allows high school students to attend public-funded college classes in the taxpayer-funded USG system at zero tuition cost to the student.  Zero cost is a much better benefit than the reduced rate of instate tuition!

With stated goal of reducing costs of DE, HB444 was introduced by a Kemp floor leader and passed last year in the House and then was amended and passed by the state senate earlier this year– handled by a Kemp floor leader.

The liberal AJC did a good job of explaining DE and Kemp’s intent in his reform move here, but they did not include any of the obvious pertinent information on illegal alien students. Neither did they do a story when I asked how many illegal alien high school students are right now receiving a totally free ride in USG classroom seats.

AJC:

“Georgia House Bill 444 would significantly change the state’s popular dual enrollment program that allows high school students to take state-funded college courses.

Supporters of the bill say the program’s costs have skyrocketed in recent years and changes are necessary to make it sustainable. About 52,000 students are currently enrolled in the program.

Critics say the changes will limit education opportunities for many low-income and rural students.

Here are five things to know about the dual enrollment program and proposed legislation, according to information in the bill and its sponsor, state Rep. Bert Reeves, R-Marietta.”

Please read the rest here.

And note that there is no change to the fact that there is no verification to exclude illegals.

As Gov. Kemp’s staffer tells House members in his note yesterday, HB444 will see a call to agree with the senate changes this week, which will send the bill to Gov Kemp’s desk for signing.

Ga. Gov. Brian Kemp. Photo CNN.com

Nothing in the original DE program, the Kemp House bill from last year or the senate changes this year includes any requirement that illegal aliens be screened out of the free (taxpayer-funded) college courses.

Not so after high school graduation. See the USG verification system to insure illegal aliens do not receive reduced tuition rates for those applicants here.

Gov. Kemp’s office phone number is 404-656-1776. He is knowingly allowing illegal aliens in high school to obtain a no-cost college education – and Georgia citizens are being billed.

We hope you ask your own Rep how they are going to vote on HB 444 – and how they voted on it last year.

We will post all voting records next week.

Vote records as promised. Pasted from the General Assembly website.
