Border Patrol releasing immigrant families into US instead of transferring to ICE

Washington Examiner

by Anna Giaritelli
 | March 26, 2019 12:36 PM

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Border Patrol agents have been quietly releasing immigrant families apprehended at the southern border rather than transferring them to Immigration and Customs Enforcement to continue being held in federal custody, a senior Department of Homeland Security official told reporters Tuesday.

Acting ICE Director Ronald Vitiello said the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border has become so dire that Border Patrol agents are letting families go free into the United States and telling them to show up for asylum hearings in the future instead of putting them in ICE custody for 20 days, the maximum amount of time they can be detained due to a 2015 court ruling.

“CBP [Customs and Border Protection] is doing some of their own release and as the flow continues, we may have to start doing that,” Vitiello said following a speech at the Border Security Expo.

Vitiello, who is still navigating the Senate confirmation process since his nomination to lead the agency last summer, said ICE is “barely keeping up” with the people it is taking from CBP, prompting border agents to take matters into their own hands.

“They are overwhelmed, and we are in a position where we’re not able to help them as fast as we want to,” he said.

Vitiello, who worked for CBP for three decades, said the release an unspecified number of undocumented immigrants into the U.S. is “not really different” than what CBP did in the mid-2000s. Back then, Border Patrol agents were arresting nearly 100,000 people per month and would release some out the back door of stations. Read the entire report here and see the video.

Family Separation: Washington State Deputy, Husband and Father of Three Killed by Illegal Alien

March 25, 2019 By D.A. King

Another American law enforcement officer permanently separated from his family by an illegal alien who overstayed a visa

701,900 foreigners overstayed their temporary visas in fiscal year 2017

A Washington state Sheriff’s Deputy was killed last week in a shootout with an illegal alien who entered the United States lawfully on a temporary agricultural worker visa and never left, according to ICE.

Kittitas County Sheriff’s deputy Ryan Thompson was killed and Kittitas police officer Benito Chavez was shot in the leg in the gunfight last Tuesday night near Ellensburg. The alleged shooter, a Mexican citizen who was living in Ellensburg, was identified as 29-year-old Juan Manuel Flores Del Toro, according to the Washington Times.

Deputy Thompson is survived by his wife and their three children.

According to official reports, The deputy and Kittitas police officer attempted to stop a vehicle they had received a complaint about Tuesday night. The vehicle failed to stop, which resulted in a pursuit.

When the vehicle was finally stopped, the illegal alien suspect exchanged gunfire with the deputy and police officer. The deputy was fatally wounded and was later pronounced dead at Kittitas Valley Hospital, the sheriff’s office said.

According to an August, 2018 DHS report, 701,900 foreigners overstayed their temporary visas in fiscal year 2017. Experts agree that about half of the illegal aliens currently looking for a better life in the U.S. are visa overstays and did not come over American borders illegally.

In a detailed “Backgrounder” report, the Washington DC- based Center for Immigration Studies has noted that “the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) overstay rate methodology, which uses admissions rather than individuals, produces a deceptively low overstay rate that does not reflect the true magnitude of the problem.”

A Memorial Service for Kittitas County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Thompson will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at the Nicholson Pavilion, 715 E. Dean Nicholson Blvd., on the Central Washington University Campus in Ellensburg, Washington according to an official  press release. “Deputy Thompson was born in 1976, grew up in Walla Walla, and graduated from Central Washington University in 2003.”

According to the Kittitas County webpage, Deputy Thompson provided 14 years of exceptional service to Kittitas County as a law enforcement professional.

The Discredited SPLC in the New Yorker Magazine: From a Smear Huckster and Former Staffer, Bob Moser; “We Were Part of the Con and We Knew It”

The Reckoning of Morris Dees and the Southern Poverty Law Center

By Bob Moser

“Everything feels so out of whack,” I said. “Where are the lawyers? Where’s the diversity? What in God’s name is going on here?”

“In the days since the stunning dismissal of Morris Dees, the co-founder of the Southern Poverty Law Center, on March 14th, I’ve been thinking about the jokes my S.P.L.C. colleagues and I used to tell to keep ourselves sane. Walking to lunch past the center’s Maya Lin–designed memorial to civil-rights martyrs, we’d cast a glance at the inscription from Martin Luther King, Jr., etched into the black marble—“Until justice rolls down like waters”—and intone, in our deepest voices, “Until justice rolls down like dollars.” The Law Center had a way of turning idealists into cynics; like most liberals, our view of the S.P.L.C. before we arrived had been shaped by its oft-cited listings of U.S. hate groups, its reputation for winning cases against the Ku Klux Klan and Aryan Nations, and its stream of direct-mail pleas for money to keep the good work going. The mailers, in particular, painted a vivid picture of a scrappy band of intrepid attorneys and hate-group monitors, working under constant threat of death to fight hatred and injustice in the deepest heart of Dixie. When the S.P.L.C. hired me as a writer, in 2001, I figured I knew what to expect: long hours working with humble resources and a highly diverse bunch of super-dedicated colleagues. I felt self-righteous about the work before I’d even begun it.

The first surprise was the office itself. On a hill in downtown Montgomery, down the street from both Jefferson Davis’s Confederate White House and the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church, where M.L.K. preached and organized, the center had recently built a massive modernist glass-and-steel structure that the social critic James Howard Kunstler would later liken to a “Darth Vader building” that made social justice “look despotic.” It was a cold place inside, too….More here.

Record: $120 billion sent back to Central America by “immigrants” in the U.S. 2009-2018

Record $120 billion sent home to 3 top nations flooding US with illegal immigrants

Washington Examiner

March 20, 2019

Image: Washington Examiner

“The so-called “remittances” have been in the focus of some immigration reform advocates who want to tax the transfers. Proponents said that a tax on the money, some of which is collected under the table and outside payroll taxes, could help pay for President Trump’s proposed border wall with Mexico.

Under one proposal that failed to pass Congress, remittances would be taxed 7 percent. Pew Research Center revealed in January that immigrants in the United States sent home $138 billion in 2016 alone. A 7 percent tax would raise nearly $10 billion, enough to fund building the wall in three years.”

“These huge numbers also suggest that the United States should follow the lead of Oklahoma, and start collecting a share of the remittances to help mitigate the costs of illegal immigration. You could build a wall with some of that money, compensate victims of illegal immigration, and much more – and Congress should do it,” said immigration expert Jessica Vaughan of the Center for Immigration Studies.

Money immigrants send home is a huge part of the economy of those three nations, reaching over 20 percent in El Salvador and Honduras. Over 90 percent of the remittances come from immigrants inside the United States, though a United Nations group said that the money comes from a total of over 100 countries. Read more here.

Fast Fact: Illegal aliens are illegal and seeking asylum does not make illegal entry into America legal

March 20, 2019 By D.A. King

Image: Istockphoto.com

“Indeed, if it were true that illegal entry was not a crime, the entire Trump administration enforcement program, and thousands of such cases under President Obama, would have been struck down months ago. In fact, the government can charge illegal entry, even for first offenders, as a crime under 18 U.S.C. 3559 with up to six months imprisonment.”

Jonathan Turley is the Shapiro Professor of Public Interest Law at George Washington University.

Seeking asylum does not make illegal entry into America legal

BY JONATHAN TURLEY, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR — 07/12/18

“It sounds like a pitch that only the most craven coyote smuggler would make: If you make it into the United States, you are lawful. Yet, that seems to be the claim by various activists and politicians as our immigration debate continues to divide to the furthest extremes.

The latest iteration came from CNN political analyst and USA Today columnist Kirsten Powers, who insisted on air that people brought by coyotes over the border are doing something perfectly legal under federal law, since most seek asylum. The greatest danger from such statements is not the risk of misleading viewers but misleading immigrants who take such statements as an accurate description of the law.”

The International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS) has called on non-Muslim countries to ban “Islamophobia,” which means criticism of Islam – CAIR active in Georgia

UAE Doubles Down on Designation of CAIR as Terrorists | Image: Clarion Project

Robert Spencer in Frontpage magazine: “So long, everybody. If I’m shut out of all platforms over the next few days, you’ll know why.”

March 18, 2019

Frontpage magazine

Calling for or justifying a massacre of innocent people is one thing. But that “failing to address far-right extremism on their platforms” is quite another. For years now, Leftists and Islamic supremacists have insisted that opposing jihad mass murder and Sharia oppression of women and others constitutes “far-right extremism.” So it is likely that those who will be shut down will not be limited solely to people such as this “24-year-old from Oldham” who was “making reference and support for the terrible events.” It will include foes of jihad terror.

My friends, it could be time for me to be saying goodbye. Leftist and Islamic groups have been trying for years to silence all criticism of jihad terror and Sharia oppression of women and others, and in the New Zealand massacre they see the best chance in a long time to move in for the kill. I (along with other foes of jihad terror) could be banned from everything and rendered a non-person, a la Alex Jones, any day now.

This is no exaggeration. Meeting in Istanbul, the International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS) has called on non-Muslim countries to ban “Islamophobia,” which means criticism of Islam, including analysis of the motivating ideology fueling jihad terror. IUMS President Ahmed al-Raisouni said Friday: “IUMS calls on non-Muslim countries to ban the spread of hatred against Islam and Muslims.”

Since analysis of the motivating ideology behind jihad terror is routinely smeared as “hatred of Islam and Muslims,” this will likely outlaw all such analysis and make opposition to jihad terror effectively impossible.

And these bans are very likely coming. In America, they won’t take the form of actual laws forbidding criticism of Islam (although remember that Tom Perez, the current head of the Democratic National Committee, refused to rule out the implementation of such laws a few years ago, when he was Assistant Attorney General in the Obama administration). They’re more likely to take the form of a complete deplatforming. We will be able to speak, but no one will be able to hear us, as we won’t be allowed on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and the rest.

IUMS was not alone. Saudi King Salman tweeted: “The heinous massacre that targeted worshippers in the mosque in New Zealand is a terrorist act, and it reaffirms the responsibility of the international community in combating hate speech and terrorism that is not condoned by religions or the values of tolerance.” Apparently terrorism that is condoned by religions is fine with him, as in “strike terror in the enemies of Allah” (Qur’an 8:60). But by “hate speech” he almost certainly means honest discussion of how Islamic jihadis use the texts and teachings of Islam to justify violence.

Domestically, the call for censorship came from the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which has for years been trying to shut down all opposition to jihad violence and Sharia oppression of women, gays, and others. They have succeeded in fooling many people into thinking that it is “bigotry” and “racism” to oppose jihad terror, and have made those who discuss the motivating ideology behind jihad terror toxic in the public square. Now Hamas-linked CAIR is attempting to use the New Zealand massacre to achieve total victory: the complete closure of all media platforms to foes of jihad terror and Sharia oppression… Read more here.

DHS Releases 84.5K Border Crossers, Illegal Aliens into U.S. in Two Months

Breitbart News

March 17, 2019

The Department of Homeland Security released 84,500 foreign family members into the United States since December after they crossed through the U.S.-Mexico border, Breitbart News has confirmed.

In newly confirmed federal data from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, Breitbart News has learned the massive scale and scope of DHS’s ramped up Catch and Release policy.

For months, DHS officials have said privately that the Catch and Release program has been taken to new heights, while ICE union officials declared this week that the program was in “overdrive” under the direction of DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.

Between December 21, 2018 and March 5, DHS has released a total of 84,500 border crossers and illegal aliens into the U.S. This release process often entails federal immigration officials busing border crossers into nearby border cities and dropping them off with the promise that they will show up for their immigration and asylum hearings, sometimes years later.

San Antonio, Texas has had to absorb most of these released border crossers and illegal aliens, with about 37,500 being dropped off in the city. Another 24,000 were dropped off in El Paso, Texas, while 14,500 were released in Phoenix, Arizona and 8,500 were released in San Diego, California.

At this rate, DHS is releasing more than 42,000 border crossers and illegal aliens into the country about every month. Should this current Catch and Release rate remain throughout the calendar year, by the end of 2019 DHS will have released more than half a million border crossers and illegal aliens into the U.S. Read more here.

Feds: Illegal Aliens’ Health Care Costs U.S. Taxpayers Quarter of a Billion Dollars Annually

From Breitbart News

March 15, 2019

Every year, American taxpayers are forced to subsidize the cost of health care for illegal aliens who have been arrested by federal immigration officials to the sum of about a quarter of a billion dollars.

In data obtained by Breitbart News, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reveals that more than $250 million in U.S. tax dollars goes towards providing medical, dental, and mental health care for illegal aliens and border crossers who are in ICE custody at any given time.

This cost does not include the cost of illegal aliens and their U.S.-born children living throughout the country. Separately, these illegal aliens and their children cost the American taxpayer more than $17 billion a year in medical expenses, according to research by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).
