GALEO’s Dax Lopez passed over again despite support from Establishment Republican “influencer” Heath Garrett

June 4, 2019 By D.A. King

A partial list of reminders of when Dax Lopez did not resign from GALEO  *Updated with short audio

Conservative, pro-enforcement voters in Georgia should have an interest in understanding that Governor Kemp rejected DeKalb state court judge Dax Lopez for an appointment to higher court last week – May 31st – and who supported the appointment.

Lopez was on a short list with two other judges for a gubernatorial appointment for a promotion to a Stone Mountain Circuit Superior Court seat. On Friday, Kemp announced that Shondeana Morris, a former deputy district attorney in Fulton County and former assistant solicitor for the City of Atlanta was chosen for the position. Morris has been a State Court judge since 2017. Lopez was appointed to state court on 2010 by Republican Governor Sonny Perdue.

This was not the first time Dax Lopez has run into trouble. After intense public pressure, in 2016 Lopez was rejected by Georgia Senator David Perdue after then President Barack Obama nominated him for a lifetime seat on the federal bench in Georgia. Lopez also withdrew his name from consideration for Georgia Supreme Court when letters of objection poured into then Governor Deals’ office asking that Lopez be dropped from consideration.

Republican strategist and former Chief of Staff to Senator Johnny Isakson, Heath Garrett, reminded us that he and Senator Isakson backed Lopez for federal judge and expressed support for appointing Lopez to Superior Court on the May 13 edition of the liberal GPB radio show ‘Political Rewind. ’ Garrett explained that Dax Lopez was not only a friend but someone who Garrett has worked with. An excerpt from the radio dialogue on Lopez and the possibility of his advancement:

Heath Garrett. Image: Twitter

Heath Garrett: “And, look, full disclosure, Dax is a good friend. He’s worked with me on a number of campaigns. Uh, Senator Isakson and our organization has promoted him for that federal judgeship and backed him, uh, to the, uh, ’til the moment that he withdrew. Uh, we support him in this, as well. This is exactly the type of individual that Republicans ought to be supporting into these types of positions. And then to have others within the party come and attack him, I think is bad policy.”

Update: Audio.

https://immigrationpoliticsga.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Recording-4.m4a

Garrett was joined in support of Lopez by the pro-amnesty corporation fund by open borders billionaires, FWD.us after GALEO leader Jerry Gonzalez sent out an action alert for supporters to contact Governor Kemp and directing them to the FWD.us page to sign on to a letter to Kemp.

Garrett is described as an “influencer” by Ballotpedia. *A favorite Heath Garrett story here.

Why has Dax Lopez had so much trouble with advancement?

For eleven years Dax Lopez served as board member, treasurer, tactician and fundraiser for the corporate-funded, anti-enforcement immigration activist group the Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials (GALEO). He resigned from GALEO only after the Obama nomination for federal bench and the massive objections from the public, elected officials and law enforcement officers poured into the senate offices.

We think it is important to understand that Dax Lopez did not resign from GALEO when Executive Director, Jerry Gonzalez, was race-baiting and smearing legislators for passing legislation aimed at protecting Georgians from illegal immigration. And smearing rule of law activists for taking a pro-enforcement position on immigration  – and attacking law enforcement officials for daring to use the federal  287(g) tool to safeguard public safety by locating and reporting to ICE criminal illegal aliens who were arrested for additional crimes and landed in the county jails.

According to the left-leaning Georgia Budget and Policy Institute, Georgia is home to more illegal aliens than green card holders.

Image: GBPI.org

Dax Lopez has made it clear that he supports the GALEO agenda.

An abbreviated list of the GALEO agenda items pursued with corporate funding during the time Dax Lopez served on the GALEO board include:

  • Leading and participating in protest marches against any immigration enforcement
  • Lobbying city and county officials against honoring ICE detainer requests in local jails
  • Transporting and escorting admitted illegal aliens into the senate chambers in the state Capitol
  • Lobbying against voter ID
  • Lobbying against increased penalties for driving without ever having been licensed
  • Lobbying state legislators against use of federal tools to insure public benefits only go to eligible applicants
  • Lobbying against implementation of the no-cost E-Verify system to protect jobs for legal residents
  • Lobbying against legislation to make English the constitutional official language of government in Georgia
  • Lobbying against state penalties for ID fraud for the purpose of illegally obtaining employment on the pretense that all of this would somehow be “anti-immigrant” and/or “anti-Hispanic.”

Not only did Dax Lopez not resign from the board of GALEO when all this was happening, but as a sitting state court Judge Dax Lopez assisted with GALEO fundraising by serving as keynote speaker at a 2011 GALEO breakfast fundraiser.

Also according to the Charlotte Observer Lopez was personally and directly active against state immigration enforcement-related legislation in a very direct manner (2008). Lopez wrote then-Gov. Sonny Perdue, requesting a gubernatorial veto of two pieces of legislation, House Bill 978 and Senate Bill 350. Both measures were judged by GALEO to adversely affect Georgia’s growing illegal alien community.

“Gov. Perdue did veto HB 978, which authorized the impounding of vehicles from operators who had no valid driver’s licenses. But he signed Senate Bill 350 into law, making a fourth conviction for driving without a license a felony.

The measure also requires police to determine the nationality of anyone jailed after being convicted for driving without a license. The Latino officials association opposed the measure, saying it would create tension between immigrants and law enforcement while making crime victims and witnesses less likely to contact police” the newspaper reported.

We think Governor Kemp did the right thing to listen to pro-enforcement Georgians and to ignore the voices of Establishment Republicans like Heath Garrett when he passed over GALEO’s Dax Lopez.

Full disclosure: The Dustin Inman Society, of which this writer is president, proudly organized opposition to state court judge Dax Lopez for federal court, for state supreme court and the most recent attempt to advance to superior court.

Spring, 2018: GOP Blocks Georgia Immigration Enforcement Bill, But OKs Traffic Cameras

DA King: GOP Blocks Georgia Immigration Enforcement Bill, But OKs Traffic Cameras

The Republican Speaker of the Georgia House blocked a bill that would help deport criminal illegal aliens, but he pushed through a last-minute bill touted by his lobbyist son, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The paper reported April 12:

Georgia House Speaker David Ralston delayed the end of this year’s legislative session past a midnight deadline so lawmakers could vote on a bill to allow speeding ticket cameras in school zones.

The bill was pushed by Ralston’s son, a lobbyist for an Arizona-based company, American Traffic Solutions, that sells the camera systems to local governments.

…

Ralston and Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, the president of the state Senate, agreed to continue working past midnight to allow the House to approve the bill after it had passed the Senate a few minutes earlier, said Kaleb McMichen, a spokesman for Ralston, a Blue Ridge Republican.

In contrast, Ralston refused to allow a vote on a public safety bill in the GOP-dominated House before ended its annual session on March 30. Corporate-funded anti-borders groups took credit for the defeating the bill, which would have required state officials to notify federal immigration-enforcement officers of illegal migrants in the state’s jails.

GOP leaders offered excuses for blocking the popular immigration-reform bill

“We ran out of time before we had finished all the bills that were worthwhile,” said House Majority Whip, Christian Coomer. “Other bills took priority and SB452 wasn’t called before the clock struck midnight,” he told the liberal Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper. Read the rest here.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Donald (“D.A.”) Arthur King, 1 April 1952 – 5 March 2025.

We are sorry to inform you that D.A. King, President and founder of the Dustin Inman Society, has left us.

D.A. King left this life and his work for the nation that he loved, confident that he has done his best. D.A. passed on peacefully after a private battle with cancer.

“Once a Marine, always a Marine” – D.A. was always visibly proud of his service and his honorable discharge from the U.S. Marine Corps (1970-1976).

D.A. described himself as “pro-enforcement” on immigration and borders, an issue on which he dedicated the last 21 years of his life as an expert activist, writer and public speaker.

________________________________

D.A. King, who describes himself as “pro-enforcement on sustainable immigration” is a former U.S. Marine and a nationally recognized authority on immigration-related matters who has been to the Southwest border many times and has been a reluctant denizen of the Georgia State Capitol for the last eighteen years. He has organized more than twenty rallies against a repeat of the 1986 amnesty of illegal aliens, both in the Atlanta area and in Washington DC.

D.A. is president and founder of the Georgia-based Dustin Inman Society. In addition to appearing on countless TV and radio and networks, since 2003 when he put aside his own insurance business and became active on immigration enforcement, his columns on immigration and legislative capers have been published in many newspapers – including a thirteen-year stint in the Marietta Daily Journal – as well as Breitbart News and the subscription website, Insider Advantage Georgia.

King has been profiled by the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the Associated Press, on the front page of the New York Times and has been interviewed by Univision’s open borders advocate, Jorge Ramos. He is hated by the discredited SPLC and the corporate-funded anti-enforcement lobby and has been blacklisted by the liberal establishment media in Atlanta for several years. With thanks to Georgia Senator David Perdue, King led the successful effort that concluded in January 2016 to keep GALEO’s Dax Lopez off the federal bench. D.A. advises politicians to heed congressional testimony of the late Barbara Jordan on immigration and enforcement.

King is a supporter of English as the official language of the United States, the federal 287(g) enforcement tool and the E-Verify system and  has assisted legislators with the creation of illegal immigration-related state bills including SB529 in 2006 and HB87 in 2011. He is currently active in an effort to see actual enforcement of state laws passed to protect Georgian’s jobs benefits and services from the crimes of illegal employment and illegal immigration.

King advocates for the abolition of Georgia’s Immigration Enforcement Review Board (IERB), which he says is a “travesty of a mockery of a sham of a Kangaroo Court.”

ImmigrationPoliticsGA.com was created in late 2018 with personal funds in an effort to provide news and opinion now mostly muffled and hidden by the MSM in Georgia. Married to the love of his life, Sue, since 1982, D.A. King has operated on personal savings and donations from patriotic Americans since 2003. He is not a member of any political party and also describes himself as a proud American Nationalist.

A Lawsuit Exposes the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Lies

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is an investigative journalist and writer focusing on the radical Left and Islamic

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is an investigative journalist and writer focusing on the radical Left and Islamic terrorism.

Twenty-one years ago, Dustin Inman, a sixteen year old boy, lost his life to a Mexican illegal alien. That alien is still a wanted fugitive. Under the Trump administration, the ICE VOICE office was established to help victims of illegal aliens and Dustin’s killer appear on its most wanted list. In one of his numerous acts of calculated cruelty, Biden shut down ICE VOICE.

And two decades later Dustin’s killer is still out there.

There are tragically a thousand cases like this. But some of them make people step up. That’s how D.A. King founded the Dustin Inman Society. The former Marine financed it with his life savings, borrowed against his house and sold his inheritance. Since then he has fought a tireless campaign in Georgia against an illegal alien crisis that only keeps getting worse.

And now he’s fighting one against the Southern Poverty Law Center…

When I first became aware of the absolute hatred and dishonesty of Morris Dees’ moneymaker, the discredited fundraising machine, the Southern Poverty Law Center, I wanted to write that Dees was rather like some  TV “evangelist” hustlers – but that had already been done. A former associate of Morris Dees, renowned attorney Millard Farmer says of Dees: “He’s the Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker of the civil rights movement…though I don’t mean to malign Jim and Tammy Faye…”

Ken Silverstein, writing in Harper’s magazine in 2000 (“The Church of Morris Dees, How the Southern Poverty Law center profits from intolerance”) said “… the SPLC spends most of its time–and money–on a relentless fund-raising campaign, peddling memberships in the church of tolerance with all the zeal of a circuit rider passing the collection plate.” See also “Hate” immigration and the Southern Poverty Law center.”

I wanted to write that I see Dees as “a fraud and a con man.” But in 1996 someone named Stephen Bright already did.

Or “Dees is a Fear monger, Profiteer and Hypocrite”…nope, already been done – Paul Hall, Managing Editor, in the Midpines, California.

The Reckoning of Morris Dees and the Southern Poverty Law Center – New Yorker magazine

From the in suburban Washington, D.C., editorial ”Lump of Coal” on Morris Dees and the SPLC in December 2003: “…a bunch of slick, parasitic hucksters who live high on the hog by raising money on behalf of needy people who never see a dime of it.”

This expose is informative on the SPLC from the Montgomery Advertiser:

“Inside, no blacks have held top management positions in the center’s 23-year history, and some former employees say blacks are treated like second-class citizens. “I would definitely say there was not a single black employee with whom I spoke who was happy to be working there,” said Christine Lee, a black graduate of Harvard Law School who interned at the Law Center in 1989. Only one black has ever been among the top five wage-earners at the center, and he was one of only two black staff attorneys in the center’s history. Both said they left unhappy.

The Law Center’s ambitious new project, Teaching Tolerance, which is designed to promote racial and cultural justice throughout America’s schools, is produced by an eight-member all-white staff according to the Law Center.”

We should note here that the SPLC hates me and most pro-enforcement immigration activists. *One of their lobbyists tried to steal my cell phone/camera in a Georgia Capitol committee room in 2018. These people are leftist open borders scum. But allow me to share some other opinions…”

Can a black, pro-enforcement immigration activist be a ‘white nationalist?’ Social Contract Press

“That was amusing, to this African-American woman who, along with other black Americans, and Latino and Asian Americans found ourselves attending a “white nationalist conference” if you were to believe the Imagine 2050 and the SPLC.

Mind you this was a conference at which two Latinos made presentations and another Latino told the heartbreaking story of his brother’s murder at the hands of a twice-deported illegal alien.

Memo to Imagine 2050 and the SPLC: I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia in the years immediately following the civil rights era. I would spot a real white nationalist a lot faster than you ever could.

This entire smear campaign would be amusing if it wasn’t so sick.”…

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is an investigative journalist and writer focusing on the radical left and Islamic terrorism.

“The nation’s longest running civil rights mail order scam has almost $450 million in assets. The Southern Poverty Law Center, founded by a lawyer who had formerly defended a violent racist who beat a Freedom Rider on behalf of the KKK, has a swollen bank account but is headed for a reckoning.”

*One of my personal favorites –> How I Became a Hate Group  (or,  “how could an organization which wrote down “Casa D’Ice Signs” as a hate group without realizing that Casa D’Ice was a bar, make a mistake?”)

Sultan Knish blog

“When I went to sleep last night, little did I know that while outside sirens competed with car alarms in the symphony that is New York City, I had already been declared a hate group. Being declared a hate group wasn’t in my plans for the day, but like winning the lottery, it seems to be one of those things that happens when you least expect it. Except that as the little bald man in front of the bodega tells you, you have to play to win, but you don’t even have to buy a ticket to be declared an official hate group. My first response on finding out that I was now a hate group was to look around to see where everyone else was. A hate group needs the group part and one man and a cat don’t seem to be enough. Even when the cat is a well known bigot who hates mice, birds, car alarms that go off in the middle of the night, the plumber and sudden noises.

Still the Southern Poverty Law Center had listed, “Sultan Knish a blog by Daniel Greenfield” as one of their Active Anti-Muslim Hate Groups, alongside such other vast organizations as “Faith Freedom”, a website for ex-Muslims, and “Casa D’Ice Signs”, the signs on a bar located on K-Mart Plaza in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

Someone with less faith in the fact checking abilities of the Southern Poverty Law Center might have thought that whoever had made up this list had no clue that “Casa D’Ice” was a lounge with signs outside, that there was no such group as “Casa D’Ice Signs” and that signs are pieces of plastic and not a hate group…”read the rest here. It’s a hoot.

SOUTHERN POVERTY LAW CENTER’S “HATE GROUP” LABEL IS FALSE PROPAGANDA – Liberty Counsel

A Liberty Counsel Special Report
The Southern Poverty Law Center Exposed
(Download PDF)
“Speaking to a friendly audience, Senior Fellow of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), Mark Potok, spoke frankly about his group’s real purpose. It’s not what most in the media think. “Sometimes the press will describe us as monitoring hate crimes,” Potok told a luncheon crowd.

Potok then said, “I want to say plainly that our aim in life is to destroy these groups, to completely destroy them.”[1]

And the SPLC is highly selective in who it seeks to “destroy.” While the SPLC’s original focus was on racial hate groups that promote or engage in violence, it has now included nonviolent, peaceful individuals or groups based on ideological disagreement.. As Potok admitted in an interview, “Our criteria for a ‘hate group,’ first of all, have nothing to do with criminality or violence or any kind of guess we’re making about ‘this group could be dangerous.’ It’s strictly ideological.” Here.
